Borthwick played a single test if I remember right and bowled very average leggies.

On the basis there is something to work with spinning wise, he might get a go so you could be right. It's an option for us long term with a lengthy tour to bangla and india this year.

Again if my memory is right, Borthwick was a lower order batsman who has worked hard to get up the order and runs at Durham do count for more.

So if it is him next, it's well deserved.
 :)

Played one test against the Aussies and took a few wickets but went for runs. Steve Smith proved that with hard work it's possible to go from a young blonde lad who bowls bang average leggies and bats a bit, into a less young blonde lad who still bowls bang average leggies and a cracking top order batsman, so who knows!

At the time of being picked for England he was a number 3 bat who hardly bowled because of a wrist injury, but was playing in Oz so was a convenient pick for the ECB.

He has started bowling with regularity again and has took plenty of wickets already this season to go alongside his runs, I still wouldn't want him bowling excessive overs but could certainly be useful. I can't find anywhere with 2016 stats alone so I don't know how many wickets he's took this season exactly.

16 wickets so far this season in all formats (10 games)

Agreed, I think he had a game recently where he scored 2 centuries and took 6 wickets!

He scored 2 centuries with 2 wickets in one game and 188* with 8 wickets a couple of games later.

'When Yorkshire's strong, England's strong' - luckily, Yorkshire people don't like to go on about this.

If this was completely true we'd be terrible at white ball cricket

Stokes (since moving as a child from NZ) has always lived up north!

Rangana Herath is an old school master of the art of slow left arm spin. Depending on how long he plays, he's closing in on Daniel Vettori's 362 Test wickets
