Your kit bag, necessity's vs wasted space
« on: June 01, 2016, 09:32:31 PM »

Hi all

Random thought I've had after last Saturday, regarding what you carry compared to what actually gets used. Somebody needed their bat grip replacing, and of the 1 11 players I was the only one with a grip cone on my bag!

That did get me thinking though, how much stuff do people carry around that's just dead weight on their bag (I'm guilty of this...)

In my bag:
Match bat
Net bat
Pads
Strettons
Match gloves
Net gloves
Helmet
Spare helmet padding
Sunglasses & spare lenses
Grip cone
Spare grips
Chest pad

Spikes
Trainers
Wash kit
Sun cream
Towel
Kinesio tape & zinc oxide tape
Ankle and knee supports
Tubigrip

Pain killers
Spare inners
Spare spikes
Spare sweatbands

I have put in red the stuff I don't use on a typical match day. It seems I carry more stuff I don't need than stuff I actually do!
How about everyone else? Am I alone carrying all this unnecessary stuff, or are other forumites guilty of the same?

Are you really playing at a level where a chest pad is justifiable?

Nope, hence why it doesn't get used...
I wore it once in an indoor net session against the bowling machine about 3 seasons ago and it's been in my bag ever since...

I tend to have 2 of everything however I only end up using one. I also have about 4 shirts just incase it rains so one shirt gets wet, I bat all the way through so there goes another, I need one to field in and then one just as a spare because you never know when you may have a good tea and chuck a bit down your front.

I also tend to be to one who everyone turns to for a "does anyone have" moment. I mean, Who actually has 4 spike keys in their bag and why?

why would you carry:
1.net bat/ gloves to a game?
2. spare helmet padding to game/nets? surely you can get through a game even if something goes wrong with them.
3. You don't need more than one spare grip in your kit.

I check my kit during the week and replace stuff as needed to avoid carrying all the spare stuff.

Interesting previous kit lists don't include a box  :o. I only carry two bats as there's space in the bat cave for them. Take my lid gloves, box and thigh pad to nets and use club kit for the rest.

Sounds like you're getting more than a bit carried away there Cam, spare sunglasses lenses? Never understood the need to take a grip cone to a game, if your bat grip's alright when you leave in the morning it'll make it through the game in one piece!

I just take one of everything obvious, plus a spare bat and a few extra bits like spare inners/helmet sweatbands/supports/painkillers/plasters that just live in my kitbag. Will take a spare shirt or gloves if the weather looks very wet or hot, or trainers if going away to a ground with astro nets we can warm up in, but that's about it.

No arm guard? Suggest you go shopping!

Mines still in its original packaging, unopened in 2 seasons of having it... I dream of the day a ball bounces higher than shin high in Yorkshire.

Completely understand taking extra grips/tapes though. There's always that one philistine that thinks it's OK to turn up on match day with a ripped grip... Savages.

Just store your chest guard next to your vagina guard.
