2.14 - two different profiles depending on the game. For 45 over turf I use the 2.14 Gladiator which is beautifully balanced. For T20 on a synthetic deck I use a 2.14 Malik Limited Edition which is slightly bottom heavy.

When buying new, I've always looked for 2.8 / 2.9 as I find that gives me the best feel and balance.

My current bat is 2.11 on the scales. Before this, I was using a bat I thought was heavier but it weighed in at 2.10. This was a freebee and a gun but bottom heavy. I struggled to play square cuts etc because of it.

The 2.11 is a copy of a bat that felt really well balanced and originally 2.8. I was surprised the copy came out at 2.11 but to me, it feels just right to me and as such I can play a lot more freely.

It just goes to show that feel is the most important factor to consider when looking at a bat.

I personally use 2.8-2.9 because I find using anything heavier means I try to hit everything out of the park which is detrimental to my game. I also found that heavier than 2.10 tends to aggravate my tennis elbow.

It does differ from person to person ! example : Chandra paul is not that tall but use a long handle bat vs Hayden such a big lad using a normal bat.

I am 6 feet 3 inch tall an weigh 95 kg, i recently bought a bat from H4L, i want the bat to be between 2.9 to 2.10 Max with a long blade, but i was surprised to see the bat i got was around 2.13, initially i was paranoid but the pick up in the bat felt so good and felt the bat was only 2.9 as i wanted.

So as such i will be very concerned on the pick up and buy slightly heavier bat with more willow.

I am saving this post of yours since I hear no end of how some bat makers lie about their bat weights and here we have another example of a custom made bat showing up heavier/lighter than the spec weight.

Started playing after a long hiatus several years ago and bought a 1885 GM with the lightest pickup imaginable - bat weighed 2.6 fully dressed(one grip, toetek, face sheet) The idea was that I did not have the strength to wield a heavier bat effectively. However, Could not get anything off the square with this bat - Moved to a 2.15 block of wood later in the season and played much better.

Since then, I have had several bats between 2.11 to 2.15 and seem to play well with them. I have found that the margin of error (mishit shots) is very small in the lower weights with less willow. Also, mishits result in significant jarring shock to the hands (at least my experience). With added weight you kind of give-up the cut shot to the fast bowlers but gain advantage on mishits and drives. And with the quality of balls and fields here there is not much value in well timed pushes along the ground -(Read long grass and lower quality league balls)

Long story short, 2.10 - 2.13 well balanced is what I will play with!

I personally feel its wrong to go by the scale weight of a bat. There are bats which weigh 2.10...etc but when you put your gloves on & pick it, it feels 2.8-9'ish...& vice versa. So it all goes down to the bat maker...

I used to use lighter (2.9 to 2.10) bats but felt like i'd try and hit the ball too hard instead of timing the ball. So switched over to bats between 2.10-2.13 now and i think it�s made a difference to my game. I seem to be waiting for the ball more and playing closer to my body which have made an improvement.

I don�t really care about the weight these days, i go on feel and pick up. I like a good pickup so tend to go for anything that isn�t bottom heavy.

I have felt the same thing too. I used to have 2.7 bat when i started playing (after a gap of 8 years) and now i usually play with a 2.12 t-rapta fury 100.

Agreed! dead weight is nothing - there are so many other variables like - how does it feel to you, skill of the bat maker, profile of the bat.

2.7 B3 and a 2.10 Bradbury that picks up like 2.8. My rotator cuffs knackered and cant swing the big boys anymore.

I think I use around the 2.10/2.12 mark but don't ever weigh my bats it's all about how they pick up with gloves on, I've often had team mates asking how I use that because it's to weighty but to me it's perfect so I would always just go off the pickup
