An afternoon in the sun at B3's HQ
« on: July 19, 2016, 03:14:26 PM »

Just spend a top afternoon with the b3 boys, generally just bothering 'em and talking about bats and life. So thanks to the lads there for putting up with me while I was at a loose end in Nottingham.
Honestly come away from this place more and more impressed each time I visit. They're obviously great at what they do but what impresses me is how open they are about it. As a kid I used to dream about visiting the place that made Michael Vaughan's bats and get one of my own, but it just didn't happen. But b3 allow, and actively encourage, you to come and poke around and to see the journey from cleft to bat is very interesting - to see these guys at work is something else.
I know people here have their allegiances to H4L etc but I've come away questioning again why people pay big bucks for an SG-made Kook [:D] rather than a custom, made in England bat from one of many on this forum.
Anyway, that's a debate that'll run and run - just wanted to wax lyrical about my afternoon to a bunch of bat nerds who will understand!

Top pics and couldn't agree with you more about UK made bats.

@dannyhall04 thanks for sharing. What do the dot colours on the pre mades signify?

Not sure what the colour means, just had the shape numbers on mate. Some crackers. Saw a lovely crown

imho the big names do enough to keep the fan boys coming back...but you can't beat a handmade bat made with the love of the art.
if I lived in the midlands then b3 would be on my radar (and rightly so) but i'm in the SE...Newbery, Salix, H4L would be the places for me to visit...can you ever have enough bats? lol

@sarg I believe the coloured stickers signify the grade/stripe. If I recall correctly from my visit green is 3 stripe.

I agree with Danny, a visit to B3 for a tour and an hour or two in the bat room is well worth the trip, especially when there is that much stock to tap up.

It is indeed SG - Danny is just high & excited from all the willow fumes and a bit emotional right now.  :D

Understandably so haha. I've visited B3 and as others have said it makes for a fantastic way to spend a couple of hours, the guys there are more than happy to show you round the factory and seem to actually enjoy answering the kinds of nerdy questions us forumites are likely to ask :D
