I friends bat a few years ago. This was confirmed as very very dry after he admitted to keeping it near the airing cupboard!!!

Weird how they go near the spline bottom

Must admit, it's only the past coupla years I've ever seen this happen
It can't be a good thing letting bats dry out like this, either artificially, or whilst a cleft, before the handles been fit

I wonder if there is a relationship between the bats breaking near the point of the handle "V" and this point bearing most of the pressure when a handle is fitted? Maybe the handle goes a bit too far into the V and creates a weakness at that point?

maybe.....ive had one go like this earlier but looking at the back of the bat, it was storm damaged...and this was handpicked by a retailer.

got to be honest, and ive posted this before, I cant be alone the size of bats these days compared to what they were, it's impossible for them all to be the limited large/light type willow, so the only way to get them so big at 2lb 9 or 10 is to press them less and let them dry out.

I don't think personally we should expect modern bats with large profiles to last very long. Just my opinion and i'm not an expert by any means....

compare a bat made 10 years ago in profile and todays bats... ive got a couple with massive edges and spine that weight the same as old bats but are half the size....

Very dry willow constant 40mm edge bats with little concaving at 2.10 and lower dressed weights means very dry willow

Player in our team had two LB kooks break in succession . Both from a London based retailer.. The beauty of hand picking bats!

D&P have a large profiled lightweight bat in their range. It comes with a huge unmissable warning label stating it has been built for performance not durability. If you expect your purchase to last a long time, please buy something else in our range, or words to that effect.

No matter which D&P you buy the handle/shoulder will break anyway! Don't think I've ever seen one of these last longer than a season.
