At the age of 21 I am returning to the wonderful sport that is cricket after a 4 year hiatus. I was a county player in my early teen years and for some reason i just lost interest.
Anyway, on to the subject. I am a very small adult, 5'4 (165) to be exact and I'm looking for a bat that although being the right length for me is also heavier than your typical junior bat with a huge middle (I'm not familiar with how different weights feel but from what other people use I'm thinking around the 2lb6/7oz mark). Do big companies such as GN, Kookaburra, Puma etc. make these types of bats or would it be best to go to a custom bat maker who can make a bat to my needs? (Although the price may then be an issue).
There are some junior bats on sale at the moment that are so tempting but im not sure if they would suit what im looking for! Kookaburra do a small men's size and GM do a womens bat. They're full width blades but are shorter and lighter than a Short Handle

OK, I'm biased as I'd be more than happy to make a bat for you! But, I reckon I speak for most if I suggest that the junior bats you might see retailed are unlikely to be top quality willow, or likely to be made in the UK. Not meaning to be disrespectful of the brand's business model, rather speaking as the parent of a 13 year old. Juniors have a habit of growing extremely quickly, so few parents will spend enormous amounts of money on their bats, for the 3 months of use they get. So, they are made quickly and cheaply, from willow which probably wouldn't be considered for a serious quality senior bat. The lads I know over here who get into the Suffolk sides, will often get their bats and kit from local batmakers, so as to ensure the willow and manufacturing is of higher quality.

My guess is, if you buy that Puma bat, it won't last you long. It's great you're coming back into the game, but if you were a county player before, you'll be wanting to play at a decent level and you'll quickly tire of poor results from cheap equipment.

Also, junior bats usually have shorter handles, as well as shorter and often narrower blades. Your hands in batting gloves are likely as big as any 6 footer, so a normal short handle would be appropriate. I strongly recommend you approach your local batmakers for a senior size bat, possibly with an inch or so taken off the blade, to compensate for your height. I really doubt you'll need anything shorter than that. If you're upfront about your budget, you'll probably be surprised at the quality of bat that you could get for your money, and you can discuss your specifications directly in terms of weight, middle size and middle location. It will cost more than the Puma, but as with most things, you get what you pay for.

Just been looking through the Red Ink website. They do look incredibly nice bats. Only thing is cost though. How much do you reckon it would set me back??

Slightly off topic but I did a refurb on a Slazenger recently that took next to no weight out of it. Your hand sanding weight reduction is seriously impressive!

Yeah another thing is the width of it. I'd like it to be the length of a size 6/harrow but the width of a normal adult bat. Pretty sure its impossible to find a bat that specific unless you go custom.

GM Women's size bat is that exact specification I think
