Salix 100% hand shape all of there bats!! AJK would never even consider cnc shaping or outsourcing his production.

Have had the opportunity and has always said his belief is in fully hand made bats.

A couple of hours from start to finish once the bat has been pressed and handle has been fitted and dried

Im offended someone has suggested salix bats are not hand made. They most definitely are hand made!

I have personally bought 20 part made from salix in 2012 all particular shape from cnc.  They might be shaping their top range bats but it  is extremely difficult to do all the grades by hand. Consider the volume of bats and amount of bats per day.

3 bat makers work there!! If they make 3 bats each a day that's 45 a week , for 48 weeks a year! That's well over 2000 bats, more than achievable!!

Salix machine them to about this level. From memory they do batch manufacturing, so will press a lot of clefts one day, machine them the next and then finish to order. It's a great way of making lots of bats by hand, as otherwise you'd be waiting around for glue to dry most of the time if you made 1 at a time!




They do not use a CNC though, as far as I'm aware. I'd be interested to see why you think they do @mad_abt_cricket

Hunts also have a machine that cuts several clefts at a time to a certain shape, I thought lots of manufacturers do this?  It is not CNC though.

Perhaps CNC was the wrong word I chose. Whatever machine they use is pretty accurate and close to the bat shape with the spine running down the toe. I have received partmades from other companies as well but they were more raw (bit of wood taken out from shoulder and toe). Also much thicker edges and it require much more work with the hand tools to bring to a final profile shape and size.
Nothing against Salix or any other company.  I know how much hard work is involved.  Just trying to emphasize that it is time consuming to shape and cleft in its original form with the hand tools and the only viable and logical solution is to use a machine in some form to take out uneccessary wood quickly.

Just to make my point clear.  Following is a bat making video from Salix where AJK is shown handshaping the bat from a full cleft.

This I think is not practical anymore for a company like Salix except some top of the range bats or specific custom specs request from a customer.

Quite a few brands have them in order to do the leg work in getting the rough shape befor hand finishing them.

As has been discussed many times before it's a volume game where production needs to meet demand and it's not practical to make everything from scratch by hand.
