Disaster for county cricket. Absolute disgrace that all but 3 county bosses have put the short term payoff ahead of the good of county cricket.
Proper membership paying county fans have been shafted, its the beginning of the end. It'll start with just the T20 but whats stopping the 4 day game eventually becoming an 8 team franchise.

Cricket in England is dieing and it will be dead because of the stubborn attitude of those that currently watch it and play it. The die hard fans.

Open your eyes and realise if you don't accept an attempt at change there will be nothing to watch anyway!!

Northants have no money, they had to let Willey go to Yorkshire.
Durham have no money hence Surrey getting half there players next year.

If the current county game was thriving and enough people were coming to watch, that wouldn't be happening. But it is!


The world looks upon the ipl, the big bash, the cpl, yes it's not everyone's favourite format, it's not everyone cup of tea, there's lots of commercialised annoyances. But guess what, the fans still fill the stadiums and the money is rolling in.

English cricket needs to make money and to do that it needs to bring the fans in, to bring in bigger better paying sponsors.
And the sooner is current cricketers except that the sooner it can grow again.

Being stubborn and petty is just gonna kill it.




As for "4day game be franchised soon" well it won't as no other country with franchised t20 as even suggested there going that way, but we in England will be down to 8 counties when the struggling ones are all shutdown due to bankruptcy.

Hit the nail on the head there imo @smilley792 UK cricket has to move with the times if it wants to stay competitive and relevant and whether people on here like it or not franchise style T20 tournaments have proved extremely popular worldwide and if the ECB aren't going to release more than one or two players a season to play IPL/CPL/Big Bash then having our own tournament is the only option I think.

Didn't the T20 get moved from being paid in a block as the ticket sales were poor and the punters said having too many games close together didn't make it viable cost wise, how will this change that?

not sure if I like this new idea or not. the T20 has become more popular and crowds are good. You def cant have two tournaments running thou one will fold.

from the papers the negotiation for TV rights might wait until BT sport can bid, 2018 I think

what happens thou if Counties end up not liking it when the dtls are finally done?  most are still run by Committee and you can get voted out if enough members turn up to an AGM.......

Its going to be run by the ECB and not franchised so it'll be at Test match grounds only, high ticket prices and members at the those grounds given priority on them. And as it's ECB it'll be on Sky.
If you're a supporter of a non test match ground county it'll be a non event.

I'd like to see games at the Olympic, Etihad, Millennium and Hamden Park stadiums meaning potentially bigger crowds with much cheaper tickets.

I'm not sure comparisons can be made with other countries.
India its their national sport, its bank rolled by Bollywood stars

In Aus it's  dirt cheap to get in, games are during the Christmas holiday period so are family friendly.

Neither two countries have anywhere near the same level of support for their domestic teams as over here.

The emphasise should have been getting the blast right. Making it Free to Air and making it more competitive more accessible and more publicised.

I just don't see how millions of new fans are going to suddenly take an interest whilst reducing the areas where you can go to watch cricket. At the same time alienating those fans who currently keep county cricket going.

another for the diddy clubs with county trundlers and journeymen.....the likes of essex, somerset sussex will still fill their grounds on friday evenings etc for t20 cricket

a place for both

I think teams like Essex will be hit hardest especially those near London or with a fanbase working in London. Dash back to Chelmsford to watch bang average county players with overseas players not good enough for franchise or hang around in town to watch the best of the best? Or if it's 30 mins to Chelmsford or 30 mins to London which direction will you travel in.

If the new T20 league goes on Sky, put Blast on Free to air!

As for the vote, Essex came out and said that their yes vote wasn't an all out yes in favour.

It was a vote to further discussion and see how it looks for them and what benefits they get.

If a county doesn't have a test ground, and therefore not host any games. They will receive £1.3m from ECB.

Seems a bit OTT having two T20 events IMO. Probably should've done away with the Blast. The smaller counties will cry, but you see from your IPL that non host cities get a piece of the pie anyway. There's too many average journeymen playing in the Blast. With the franchise based competition, we'll see the best English players missing it with the global stars(depending on which players are available. Would be great in some of the Indians where made available but seems unlikely).

as a neutral london

as an essex supporter if they are playing then i'd want to go and watch essex

What new fans ?

Will it really help grow participation ?

Some smoke and mirrors going on. It's a money making scheme for short term and that is all. Footy meat head beer swillers will like it though and they are where the money is to be made.
