What's the best string to use?

Refurbishing a mate old GN.

Took the trip off, half the string missing  . Also want to add some to make oval handle effect on my bats.

Do you wash with pva after?

Traditional waxed l cotton binding it's stronger and easier to work with its  also what  bat makers use
Put a thin layer of PVA at the  top of the bat when you start run bind across your thumb onto the handle keeping  bindiing tight with the bat upright turn the bat.
On completion coat bindiing with PVA

From memory I think @wilkie113 bought a roll of pink twine from somewhere a while back

The problem with Butchers string it is thick what I would get is waxed cotton Or Beeswax  cotton also avoid that  cheap nylon binding

I've got a ball of waxed twine from one of the forum sponsors, I have a home made jig with two pins to spin the bat, after I've applied the twine, I give it a coat of pva.

I usually just make sure I'm first on the scene whenever anyone is binning a bat. Got a reel to unravel it onto and there you go, free lifetimes supply already cut to handle length.

If anybody is a 'take the twine off the handle' type like me.....I've found a replacement /alternative to elastoplast / medical tape . Ive been experimenting with kinesiology tape and i love it so far ...... (for the sceptics - if medical tape is good enough for a kaboom or xp80 it can't be all bad ).

Your right GN have been using it for years I had a handle with it on when they first used titanium

Morning. Can you give us an idea of how much you need for each bat? What lengths do the rolls come in?

10 metre rolls usually for smaller rolls. Then 3.142 x D for one turn x Binding length divided by twine thickness will get you somewhere close to estimate twine usage.

This is somthing I've been going to make for a while as I no longer have access to a lathe to spin  bats between centres  something simular to  what  JP Gavan has
