If you could call one player up the England squad for India...
« on: October 31, 2016, 08:40:34 AM »

Who would it be?  KP and Bell-end have been mentioned by some, and Hales would surely have been considered but for his stance on Bangladesh.  Amongst the bowling options, I've put forward the best English spinner in county cricket last year together with one of everyone's perennial favourites.  You might wish to chime in with pro-Monty comments here...

Bell...  I've got my tin hat on but if it's batting coverage we need for Balance....let's be honest there's no point in him staying out there till January he might as well come home.

you can argue all day long he didn't do much last year at County level(correct he didn't) but he has got 20 international tons and you don't get those out of a Xmas cracker

People choosing KP.... yes that is your choice but get your sensible hat on... that ain't going to happen!

For me, the spin department is sorted! They're the best we have so just use them! Plus, as we all know! Batsmen 9 times out of 10 get themselves out so just bowl to plan and see what happens.

For me I can see Hameed opening and Duckett going to 4. A bloody in experienced top 4.

However a top 4 of

Cook
Duckett
Root
Bell

Would look far more solid!

But in truth, are the selectors going to call up anybody else?! Highly doubtful

It was an option so I picked him as out of them he is the best player and most likely to win matches

if we are choosing out of any current county batsmen I'd have banger (tresco) all day long

but realistically the only choice we have for me is Hameed as what has butler done to get back in the test side?

I think its too much to keep in sub continent and bat top 6 so putting YJB up order to get butler in would be a gamble

Following the shambolic batting performance  against offspin The experience of Bell or kP is  needed in this England team

KP "the best player and most likely to win matches" you say.
How much cricket has he actually played in the past 18 months?

Yeah, drop Chris Woakes to get them in!  ;)
Was Bell ever a great player of spin? I suppose he would have looked good getting 20 or 30 when facing spinners, which is more than we can say for Balance...

I've been trying to say this to people for a while but no-one seems to take any notice because KP is god! I'm bored and was intrigued so here it goes.

11 FC matches since the start of 2015
0 List A since 2013
48 t20 matches since BBL 14/15
And of course 0 international games since 2014

I know people want people picked on form, granted he scored a few runs in those games, but how can you seriously want to pick someone who has played 11 games more than 20 overs in the last 2 years to play 5 tests in India??

Take your point but can Bell or KP bat any worse  than what we have witnessed in Bangladesh

Am I wrong in thinking the squad has already been confirmed as the same that toured Bangladesh? Thought that got announced last week?

Good thread, my assumption from the opening post is that they have to be available for selection and not retired.
Yes the squad is picked, but there may be a change regardless.

On the basis (as Reds and Scott say) KP will not/should not be selected, although I have excessive faith if anyone could do it, he could.  I have no idea who I would suggest.

We need a hard as nails number 4 bat and a left arm spinner who can bowl a consistent length and give it a rip.
