I'd be keeping a keen eye on youngsters like Matthew Renshaw and Sam Heazlett.

Ponting said a couple of years ago state cricket needs to dump the kook balls and use the english duke ones.
This might not solve the aussies problems batting wise but it seems one option they could do right now

Some of the shield rounds will use a dukes this season .....so at least that is starting to take shape . While they're at it , they could could use s.g balls too , couldn't hurt with the Indian tour in Feb .

I was just going to make the same post .
This is good news,  his selection logic has been so inconsistent for ages .
It's a pity that some of our best candidates for selectors already have commentary commitments etc . Ponting , Taylor , Warne , Healy , I.Chappell,  Border , would all be good . Plus , we have the wrong Waugh brother on the panel .

People keep talking about Sheffield Shield not being the finishing school that it once was . I think a lot of has to do with the stop-start schedule and the use of too many roads and samey-samey wickets . Why can't we have a longer first class season ? Start in July or August when some of the pitches are bound to be greener ? It's not like we have a shortage of grounds , ie in Sydney : Drummoyne , Hurstville , Bankstown , Blacktown , North Sydney etc have all hosted previous first class fixtures . Who cares if no one shows up or takes interest because they don't already ! Who cares if it's still footy season . Be like Nike and just do it !

You guys are coming off a 1-1 draw with Bangladesh and a drawn test in India. Don't get too cocky.

Absolutely - but it is lovely to see someone else being poo and getting it in the neck from their own media, it's most refreshing.

My money would have been on Bangladesh had the aussies toured ;). Luckily for them they didn't!

Misery loves company and after the Kiwi tour of India, I guess they're enjoying watching the Aussies struggle.

Thought the kiwi's put up a good show apart from the last test. Better than what the Aussies have done on the subcontinent.

Pretty sure every single test match against pak, ind and SL recently was a thrashing
