Who's the Best Keeper in the World at the moment....
« on: November 15, 2016, 08:27:54 AM »

Their is an interesting mini discussion going on on another thread that i thought i would open up on it's own one etc...

Who's the Best Keeper in the World at the moment.... below are all the current keepers in the various international teams -

England Test - YJB
England ODI - Buttler
India Test - Saha
India ODI - Dhoni
SA Both - QDK
Aus Test - Nevill
Aus ODI - Wade
Pak Both - Sarfraz
NZ Both - Ronchi
WI Both - Ramdin
SL Both - Perera
Bang Both - Mushfiqur

You can debate this how you like best Test/ODI/both/Batter/Keeper etc.... it is an interesting one as i think the keeper role is changing again.

For me it is very close between YJB and QDK. But as a keeper i prefer QDK.

As a technical gloveman, probably Sarfraz.  If you are discounting the specialists who don't make Test sides.

As an all round cricketer, who would you pick?  In Tests, YJB, in ODIs De Kock.

De Kock is good enough to open in ODIs without keeping. I'm not sure Bairstow warrants a place in white ball cricket if he doesn't keep.

Sarfraz is the most fun to watch.

Are we still allowed to count Foster & Read?

The best keeper I've ever seen live doesn't even play professionally any more.
On pure glovework Michael Bates was the best young keeper around, but his batting wasn't "up to scratch" apparently  :(

Yeah, that's him.
He was on Somerset's books for a while after Kieswetter's injury.

I think he was playing Minor Counties for Wiltshire this year

So if he was that good and without a contract, maybe the 'moneybags' ECB could employ him in some sort of coaching role or youth development.

Would be a shame for outstanding natural talent to go to waste.

Quinton de Kock.

If there hadn't already been Gilchrist, he'd be the one changing keeping forever. His batting is so good, his keeping seems to go under the radar, but his glovework is immaculate.

BJ Watling is the New Zealand test keeper, not Ronchi, and has a reasonable claim over the past few years. Across all formats, De Kock.

Quinton DeKock across all three formats but as I stated on the initial thread at the moment I'd pick YJB in a purely test match world xi.

For me Sarah Taylor is better than all of them. Phenomenal hands, high class footwork

Yep sorry completely forgot about him! i do rate him quite highly from what i have seen

Regards including Read etc... as the title suggests 'Keeper at the moment' otherwise it opens a massive can of worms about a whole other debate  :)

In terms of hands, if Michael Bates was still playing county cricket, he'd be the best! Shame his batting has let him down.
