GN Big Bats - Halestorm & Pro Performance
« on: November 22, 2016, 02:27:23 PM »

Here we go then,

Still awaiting main stocks but we have managed to squeeze a couple of these much anticipated big bats out of GN early.

Predator3 Halestorm SH full size and Pro Performance SB not quite full size.

Both approx 48mm edges and 70mm spines. Pickups are superb, as is ball rebound. Nothing really to say other than wow.

The Pro Performance at a remarkable 2'10 is gone (its in my kitbag) and the Halestorm at just under 2'13 has also gone to a lucky forumite.

Both are absolute stunners. Look so much bigger in real life pics rather than the catalouge pics. Would love to see these compared to the Australian kaboom, xp80 and xp70 counterparts.

Having seen @smilley792 's Warner Replica Kaboom these are not quite as big, but very impressive bats nonetheless.

According to the catalogue both start at 2'10, but whilst I suspect there will be some Pro Performance at 2'10, the Halestorm is more likely to be 2'12+

Some say the best performing bats have grains running straight through the toe?

Can some of the more informed ones on here have another discussion about whether size equates to high performance, please?

I"ll just listen. Thanks.

GN don't specify which models/grades are made where unfortunately @bostoncricketer

Now i'm going to throw this theory out there, but by looking at these, they won't look like the usual 'shade' of willow you'd get from a standard shop (indian made) and the quality (just visually) of willow doesnt remind me of a robertsbridge bat.

Please correct me if i'm wrong, it's only a theory

I think when it comes to this sort of bat, 'quality' of willow does go out the window a bit if you are talking about grain structure. Many of the Warner Replica, 50+ and XP80 bats from Aus have not been particularly good looking. The priority here is the size of bat at reasonably sensible weights.

The 2 bats above are from our reps trade show samples, and so are likely to have been UK made. They have sustained minor scuffs, dinks etc so probably aren't looking their best.

I'm not entirely sure what you mean by shade of willow relating to where its made. The main thing that governs the colour of a bat is the wood itself, various finishing compounds also have an effect.

The Pro Perfromance i'm hoping isn't typical of the sort of looks we will have when it comes to our stock bats. But as its mine all i'm worried about is the weight/pickup and performance, both superb.

the usual 'shade' of willow

I'm going to try and release a book in time for Xmas now

"50 shades of willow" - it will be the ideal stocking filler for bat porn enthusiasts  :D
