Katchet plus bowling machine?
« on: December 13, 2016, 04:54:00 PM »

I looked around youtube for an indoor drill for keepers using a bowling machine and a katchet mat. I only saw one with the mat right next the the machine at ground level.

Would it be suicidal or useless to try to put a board on a decent length and aim the machine at it? I was thinking around 40-50mph and stand up to the stumps.

My main aim is to work on reacting to large deviations which should hopefully mean I get my feet, head and hands in better positions to do so. I also thought that the natural variations of a bowling machine will mean it will miss the matt fairly often making some balls easy and some ridiculously hard.

I am stupid or mad?

Try it, but watch a few deliveries from afar first before you keep to it, as you may want to adjust the speed. I did it once at around 55 and it whizzed past my ears without me even seeing it!

Yeah good point, I'm not quite sure what I usually have it on without a mat so I guess I'll take it down a notch or two until I get used to it.

I'm netting on Thursday so I will post a picture of my x-rays on Friday.

I believe Prior and most probably the England keepers have it on 60-65 when they do the drills with the boards and the bat at the ball exit one.

so try it slow first, how can you open presents and do some shadow batting over Christmas with a dodgy digit or two!

Good luck!  :)

Remember seeing a sky video of an England lions batsman doing short ball practice with a bowling machine and katchet, Joe Denly from memory. He wore it a lot!

I tried it!

Actually very useful standing back but not so much for standing up. Might be an idea to wear a helmet standing back if you try it as it can fly!!
