Too much choice...
« on: January 05, 2017, 08:19:08 PM »

A very good friend has started bat making - his first few are genuinely beautiful objects.

At a recent net he showcased the bat he selected for his personal use and crickey it goes well.
(He's on the forum & may post photos)

So for a very reasonable price he's going to make me a custom/bespoke bat exactly to my specs we have got as far as selecting a cleft.

Now after 30 years of cricket at all levels I'm really excited - but petrified that I will rush in & regret in leisure

I've used long blade, short handle, lots of M&Hs, eBay bargains, County's when their stickers we awesome, a Kookaburra nicked out of the club bag, a Torpedo, low middles (not for me) refurbed Spartan (actually v good) and currently a massive fan of the Blankbat B-Oz at 2.10.

What profile should I go for?
I'm thinking lightish (2.8-2.9 undressed) with a high middle (I hit the ball further up the blade than I am proud to admit)

Inspiration needed - I don't want to waste this cleft and this opportunity

2.8 / 2.9 with a high middle .... sounds perfect to me. Particularly as you dont hit the ball low down. Go for it!

Ummmm.tricky.

I think if my bestie mate offered me a hand mate bat in exchange for a couple of pints I would say..

Amplus.

Despite a lot of negative stuff about the brand 5 or 6 years ago they managed to make a thick edged very big bat that picked up unbelievably well for its size.

Take your three favourite bats, work out where you hit the ball on the face and what you like about the pick up and shape and discuss it with the bat maker.

Also demand they take pictures of the process and post them on here please!

If I was you, I would try a Beluga profile at 2.8 or less.

@jblowe - Your Majesty, I think I need to pay a little more attention to that Laver at the next net - that is a superb shape, and 2.7 you say???

Is it a special shape, or one of his his standards?

I'm loving that shape as well, look forward to seeing it at Eversley.

OK - I'll distract him by pulling his beard and you run off with it!

The laver seems to be the right bat for jblowe somehow. All Royal open faced cover drive.
