Also had a colt, my first bat, and also craved a magnum. A mate had a very heavy attack, way too heavy for a 12 year old.

I do have a pair of DF green double finger gloves, purely for show. Safe to say that gloves have improved in 30 years...!

Ah. There's a pattern emerging here. We all had a kids size DF, and we all wanted a Magnum, but none of us got one. I think we can start to see why DF have struggled for market share in recent years...  :)

As an aside, I am astonished that DF are still using the same 3 black stumps logo that they had 30 years ago. It looked old-fashioned even when it was new.

As I'm basically still in nappies to some on here, I never witnessed the Duncan Fearnley market domination of yesteryear. In fact I don't think I've ever seen anyone using a Duncan Fearnley bat, and their days of being "the bat to have" had long since passed when I took up cricket.
I can remember in the summer of 2006 Sports Direct were selling them for less than £10 (probably painted driftwood, but I didn't have a clue what I was looking for back then!) I'd just been bought my first bat (an entry level Woodworm Torch - "that's what Kevin Pietersen uses, can I have that one?") but because of the ridiculous price my Dad thought they fell into the "too good to be true" category, so I wasn't allowed one ("what could you possibly need a second bat for?")

Anyway, I digress. Are DF using their original/vintage branding to appeal to a more mature audiences nostalgia, or are they just hoping the name alone will be enough to sell bats? They aren't massively (if at all) cheaper than the competition and I can't really seen any USP that would make me pick them over another brand.

It's surprising how much respect they do still hold even amongst people in their 20s who weren't around at the time actually - a player at my club cracked out his dad's Magnum for a game last season as an emergency option (my fault, I'd fixed his bat but overslept so badly I arrived at the game after he was out...) and it spent the day being passed around and being remarked upon by a bunch of players who definitely don't remember Botham/Richards etc playing international cricket.

Anyway, I'd guess they're partly trading on the name and partly being a bit lazy. I wouldn't pay their prices for what is a pretty unknown quantity now, but I would definitely rock a set of these stickers! https://www.fearnleycricket.co.uk/listings/2847-df-4-adult-bat.html

Think the reason for the high price is because they are still UK made.  Last year a gentleman called Steve Harris was the head bat maker and as far as I know that hasn't changed this year.

How good are those stickers! Simple, classic! I was almost going to say "un-offensive" but geez thats a sad state of play when to raise the bar set by most brands decals is simply to make something non-offensive.... Sad but true.

Pictures can say a thousand words! Not brand new DF bats and not the old classics. But these were quality!

It's funny that with all these new sticker designs and embossing and offering loads of colours and choice, you only need look at these stickers and they would provoke as much talk and admiration as any other brands out there!  ;)

Their logo is a brilliant design - simple, but immediately evocative of what the brand is all about.

No way should they change it.

Agree, it is open of those iconic logos...

I can see a play on it though that opens up a whole load of new bat names.... How about a logo with a more prominent middle stump called the "Brazilian", or a full colour sticker with the stumps in a white outline called "full muff"

Surely there is no place for lewd humour and base innuendo on this forum?
