Is this going to be a problem or will glue do the job?
« on: February 13, 2017, 02:59:29 PM »

I finally got to use my new 50/50 last night in the nets, the bat had come ready to go from H4L but I gave it an additional knock in and made sure the edges and toe were also rounded and had about more of a knocking it also.

15th ball I face I absolutely creamed off the middle and this happened, is it just the heartwood and some tape will fix or is it a more serious problem?

See below article also about the 'Ready to Go' also as I know the first thing is going to be it's clearly not knocked in enough.

* Should also add I'm not blaming H4L or after a new bat in anyway, just wanting to make sure that this isn't going to be terminal and how best to patch it up.

Maybe not to this extreme. But I had similar with an h4l. It arrived apparently knocked in, and I too gave it a some work before uses, but found the heartwood side to be pretty fragile and had to do quite a lot more hours knocking in.

I believe H4l smith e for a knocking in machine, maybe they want to look into if it's doing anything to the bats before they go out? It may be down on pressure.

Other thing is to check the ball? Is it a sports direct drone they was playing with? I've had a few off those do series damage to knocked in well used bats!!

It looks like there is another ding further down. I would be looking at the ball someone was using if its just happened a couple of times in the 15 balls faced.

I suspected the ball but I was the 4th into the nets and the ball hadn't caused any damage to the other bats so ruled that out. I wondered if it was something to do with where the Heartwood and Sapwood meets.

I also then switch the my Hattori and that receieved no additional damage.

As I say, it was more a question on will the damage spread and is the bat still usable/ is it terminal. I'll get some scuff sheets on order and make sure I don't go with a naked bat in future.

Such a lovely bat, I'd never ever entertain that in nets without a scuff sheet on it.
Just takes the worry out of dodgy balls, correct oiling, knocking in etc

I've learnt the hard way

It seems as it was under prepared. The ball Seam mark shows it.

When did you last oil it?

Go back to h4l - a prepared bat shouldn't do this! Presumably you paid for the knocking in service!!?? I had one from h4l supposedly fully knocked in by them and it did something similar near the toe

Can't speak for h4l but  some company's  knocking in only involves toe and edges

Or don't take everything at face value!!!!

You may have paid for a knocking in service, but then you've got no scuff sheet, no guarantee of quality of ball and he's said he's nailed a drive when the first few sessions should be against old balls playing solely defensive shots to play the bat in and test the knocking in procedure is done fully
