My love for cricket my have cost me for a while.
Straight from my holiday, off the plane and to the ground for a big game, us 2nd vs 3rds.
In the 31st over having been stood at slips for most of the innings I had to chase one to the boundary and my hamstring popped.
It made an awful sound, everyone heard it, even the oppo On the other side of the pitch.
Oh well a while off for me then.
Anyway the game.
Pitchwas a beauty grounds man claimed it was "250-300 pitch, easy"
Oppo won toss and batted. We bowled well they didn't really attack. But gave little chances.
We ran out there top scorer early. But the unpire wasn't watching "Thought it was deadball" was his excuse.
Batsman had come down pitch hit it to short cover, who threw down stumps, batsman didn't even try to get back. But he refused to walk and umpire refused to put his finger up.
Anyway our fielding was dreadful, last ten they attacked and we dropped 5 catches on the ropes and all went over.
213 for 4 they finished on.
At 82 for 2 at drinks we were confident.
At 150 for 6 with 12 left we wasn't so and I was asked if I could bat. "Maybe with a runner but I'm struggling to move.
I went in at ten, us needing 12 of 13 balls.
I scored ten of the 12. Of just 4 balls. Middled everything, and every single one hurt so much!!! thankfully for my partner he got the other 2 runs to finish on a well deserved 101* from 108 balls.
He was adamant I was gonna stand him on 99(would have to, team game.........lol).
It really shouldn't have got that far, if we had held our catches we'd have been chasing much less, and if our strong batting line up had applied themselves on a lovely track, we could have got the 250-300 the grounds man claimed easily.
Oh and apparently the kid that got 100 was stumped at 30, the same unpire again not watching, he says as much that "he's dragged" but he too decided to go on the umpires call. Karma?
Oh well, a few weeks of watching now hoping I'll be back before the season finishes.
