Lovely game of cricket with touring side Shenley Fields & @Tailendfielder down in West Somerset - he was sawn off fair too early to one of the best 1st slip catches you will ever see.
We won but they were all exceptionally hungover to be fair

Cracking weather, very welcoming hosts, was a thoroughly enjoyable day. Apart from my personal performance, but i was not feeling human. @t2ylo scored a cracking 50 before politely retiring. Cheers for the game.

If anyone is looking for a tour match i would recommend getting in touch with them. Taunton was a reasonable night out and every bar seemed to have international players and/or bat makers to chat with.

Made the 400 mile round trip to help out my sons village team playing away near Barnstaple.
Stunning setting, fantastic weather and a very nice batting track meant the trip was well worth making

Batted first and opened with monkey jnr after he'd asked to borrow? A bat
We set off well and were cruising, when I hit one to the long on boundary, the fielder picked the ball up and threw it in , hitting middle stump! While I was casually walking a single. Knob! Yes I was..

Out on 42, jnr chopped a wide one onto his stumps whilst on 72
Team got 279 off 40 overs

Somehow, they chased em down with an over to spare

I bowled a few and got 1 wicket, jnr bowled 8 overs for no wickets, I know I'm biased, but even off 3 strides he's a joy to watch.

Cracking start to 2017 season

Won today, oppo got 162-4 which didn't seem enough on a better surface than yesterday. Bowled 5-1-9-1. Having stalled their innings with pace off the oppo ignored that useful tip and bowled a load of medium pace filfth. Trying to bounce guys on a slow low dry track only resulted in us knocking it off for 3 down in 28 overs. Lovely day for April.

Scored 23 out of our paltry 48 all out before inexplicably calling for a run having middled one straight to mid off. Run out by some distance. Won't make that mistake again.

Disappointing first game of the season for us. I made a turgid 56 not out in a losing cause. Hopefully I can speed up my batting a bit more for next week's first home game.

far too many forum members scoring runs this weekend leaving some of us behind

I know it's early doors but could a new bat help?

 :)

This is exactly my train of thought after our first match. We only managed 80 batting first with a massive contribution of 6 from myself... somehow I managed to miss a straight one... doh.

On the plus side it was a welcome return to the institution that is the cricketing tea... we have great teas so I really enjoyed that.

We took to the pitch with hope in our hearts and not wanting to put too finer point on it I did manage to take whats being called by others as "the catch off the season" off the 3rd ball of their innings. Despite having them 40 for 5 they had 2 old heads that dug in, waited for the inevitable bad ball and managed to see them through to the win. We fielded well, we bowled well, we were just let down by no one firing with the bat.

Have to say though the best thing about the first game of the season is just to be back playing and see how that team spirit is starting to come back into the dressing room... the mood was lifted later in the day as the first team returned back to the club with a victory under their belt so all in all not a bad Sat for the club.

couldn't agree more. I was only joking about a new bat!  (but there's no harm in looking for one)  :)

im sure some of us will be moaning about this or that soon enough but in truth it's great just to be playing

for those of us at the fag end of our club careers......cricket is really missed thru the winter. As you get older(!) it takes longer for the season to come round.

Had a good first weekend of the season, we had a friendly against a recently promoted prem side. Had a good day in the field making some diving stops that were certain boundaries had I not got there and also taking a catch. I also bowled the last seven overs from one end which was a challenge as a spinner especially as one of the batsmen scored a hundred but finished up with 7 overs 1 wicket for 37 runs which wasn't a bad start.

Also played on the Sunday where I bowled 6 overs 1 maiden 2 wickets for 17 runs which I was very pleased with as the maiden was a two wicket maiden and the first wicket was caught and bowled, so in my opinion a decent start to the season :)
