Bit of a joke our first game. Oppositions ground is dodgy at the best of times, but late April? No chance.

I'm not really an opener by trade, but me and the captain weathered the initial storm and were about 50 odd for no wicket and that's when the mayhem began. No excuse for how the rest of the team batted and worryingly that was a pretty strong team for us.

We have a team tomorrow that put 200+ on last week and ended up declaring and we probably have a weaker team (captain is away so as vice - I'm on duty). Thankfully it's on our own deck. Wish us luck!

First game of the season today and our first league game. We got promoted last yea and great to start with a win.
Skipper lost the toss and we were put in to bat which I was quite happy about as our home wicket is lovely and hard at the moment. Left arm opener put one in the slot 2nd ball which flew out the middle of my Gray Nicolls Gun (thanks Jake) and set me off nicely. Put on 246 for first wicket so there skipper was no doubt not falvour of the month. My opening partner scored 136 and myself 105 before both being stumped an over apart chasing late runs and we finished 302-4.
In reply our opening bowler picked up 3 wickets in his first 4 overs and game was over from then on, gave loads of players a bowl and eased to 164 run victory in 31 overs so great first result. Even though we were promoted still 2/3 leagues below our level after moving across to Home Counties in 2015 but great day and nice weather. Really pleased to start this season where I finished last with a 200+ opening stand and a Ton, not playing for 2 weeks now due to a stag next weekend and family commitments after that but glad season has started

The good - 1-27 off 6
The okay - fielded well saves a lot of runs (one misfield and 4 overthrows going for a run out blemish this)
The bad - injured my ankle saving 4 in the field
The ugly - given out bat before wicket by their umpire first ball!

I can't decide if I love it hate Cricket right now.  :(

Opened the Batting again today, which was nice. some good opening bowlers made it quite fun before a dodgy left arm over lbw decision. Only scored 14 but felt much better than my 51 last week.

I've mentioned a few times that I support an autistic lad who is cricket mad and today was one of those days when all my efforts pay off. He came on first change, bowled 11 overs straight through and finished with figures of 2-48 which on our small ground is very good. Our batsmen then knocked off the target of 161 with 3-4 overs to spare. Good all around team display and on a personal level, I ended up with 2-31 off 12 overs.

I'd be content with a 30 to secure my place for the following week...
My bad luck has to change soon, doesn't it?

They got 180/10 in 40. We batted them off in 32 overs. Got 58*, much thanks to my red ink bat. Also bruised my foot fielding and later on twisted my ankle. Comes from being a bit of an old duffer I guess.
Top edged one into my face early on and broken my glasses. Thankfully had some fibre tape with me.

Didn't have high hopes today, 10 players out, managed to scrape 10 together including 2 non cricketers. Dull grey day and blowing a Gale! They won toss and batted on a decent looking track, turned out to be an absolute minefield!!! Unfortunately we didn't use the track well, our usual openers did a good job but let down by the part time bowlers as they made 225-8 in their 45. I only bowled 3 overs, for 16 absolute DS, struggled to find a length in the wind! Team was quite glum during tea, skipper asked if I would open, worked hard to make 19 before got a jaffa, swinging in then seaming away taking the bail off of offstump. Skipper and vice dug in, both making 50s and taking us to the verge before both getting out to same bowler as me. Managed to sneak towards the line, passing 200, then our players got brainfreeze and give their wickets away, drew level with 2 wickets remaining, resident idiot goes for glory, spoons one straight up! Scores level, last wicket, lad who hasn't played for 3 years, squeaky bum time!!! Lashes a boundary, yes!!!! I love cricket!!! (This week) :)

Two games last weekend and today's.

45, 77* and 176*

Going well so far this seaosn. Team won easily in all the games. Not a single chance given in these three innings too which is pleasing, no play and misses etc

I shouldn't bite but nearly 300 runs without a play and miss? If you're playing any sort of competitive cricket that seems impossible. You can't enjoy that surely if you're so misgraded?

Funny you should mention a story like this because there was a lad on the opposition team that we played yesterday who seemed to have a learning disability of sorts. He fielded 45 overs running fine leg to fine leg, never got a bat because they declared with 1 wicket remaining and to be quite honest - got abused by his own captain when he mis-fielded a ball.

We ended up giving our man of the match to him which resulted in the opposition captain going mental at me because he thought I was taking the p*ss. He couldn't see my theory that we need to be encouraging as many kids as possible to keep playing cricket.

Imagine him going home that night and saying to his Mam & Dad that he got MOM. How proud would he be? Proud enough to turn up next week for them that's for certain. Now imagine him going home and telling his Mam & Dad that he did nothing for 45 overs, never got a bat and was shouted at when he misfielded a ball. Now I know not everyone can get a bat or a bowl most weeks, but if I was his parents, he'd never play for that club again if that's the way they treat their players. Absolute disgrace.

Anyway! Opposition got 223 for 9 (declared) and we put up much more of a fight this week and ended up 214 for 9.

P.S. To top it off one of their lads punched a hole in our dressing room wall! They'll be getting a bill!

What a bunch of tools
Played with and against way too many idiots like that over the years
They are the ones that move from club to club, spoiling it for everyone

I just tell myself 'karma' what goes around comes around eventually

Followed up my 50 retired last week with a 61 on an absolute mine field shocking wicket - got the usual excuses of " wasn't like this last year" "never seen it play as bad as this before " lol but an enjoyable afternoon and a test of concentration and technique
