Funny you should mention a story like this because there was a lad on the opposition team that we played yesterday who seemed to have a learning disability of sorts. He fielded 45 overs running fine leg to fine leg, never got a bat because they declared with 1 wicket remaining and to be quite honest - got abused by his own captain when he mis-fielded a ball.

That's disgusting.

If he obviously isn't a regular in the squad that means he's been picked (and accepted) because they were short. The very least they could have done would be to let him bat 11. What did they have to lose? He might have held an end up whilst the strike batsman put a few more on. They probably should have bought him a tea for his trouble.

Any bloke who runs Fine Leg-Fine Leg for 45 overs deserves MOM regardless of performance.

Had a lovely game against Kempston Methodists. Both teams way below full strength and worried about their batting. We both agreed to bat the overs come what may. We scraped up 113-9 off 40, mainly due to our own failings. Had I not been intent on getting everyone get a game I would of fancied a few runs more than the 7* batting 10. Opened the bowling and found plenty of turn on a 3 game old pitch, recorded 5-1-8-1 (plus a drop) and then let the youngsters bowl. They got 150 odd in 40 but the important thing was both teams got plenty of practise in a relaxed atmosphere. I also learnt plenty about who I want and don't want playing in the 2s for me next week, which was my aim.

What a bunch of tools
Played with and against way too many idiots like that over the years
They are the ones that move from club to club, spoiling it for everyone

I just tell myself 'karma' what goes around comes around eventually

That's disgusting.

Glad it's not just me that thinks this. Been really bothering me since yesterday to tell you the truth. They had another young lad that got a few runs (30 odd) and to tell you the truth if he'd made 50 - he would have probably have got it because it would have been his first one. But given the circumstances it only seemed right to give it to the other young lad. Didn't think it would cause this much of a fuss!

There's an end of season award for whoever gets the most MOM across the teams in the division - but if they're that desperate to go 'pot hunting' without seeing the bigger picture then they're welcome to it.

I only found out about the hole in the wall in the burn last night @hilly_2015

The abuse this lad got was disgusting from his own captain. I was square leg umpire at the time, the over after the abuse they got a wicket and as they all came in it became apparent that the young lad was crying! I asked the captain if he thought he was clever for shouting at him and he just walked away

Two games last weekend and today's.

45, 77* and 176*

Going well so far this seaosn. Team won easily in all the games. Not a single chance given in these three innings too which is pleasing, no play and misses etc

My team had no game yesterday so I played in a village league match.

Bowled 9-32-4

Batted 3 and got run out on 77 by a guy who smashes it calls yes and then just stops. I wasn't best pleased. Thankfully I can go back to my normal team next week and put this all behind me...

As a team we still lost by 50 runs.

Sounds like you both did well not to give that idiot a right hook!

We ended up giving our man of the match to him which resulted in the opposition captain going mental at me because he thought I was taking the p*ss. He couldn't see my theory that we need to be encouraging as many kids as possible to keep playing cricket.

Imagine him going home that night and saying to his Mam & Dad that he got MOM. How proud would he be? Proud enough to turn up next week for them that's for certain. Now imagine him going home and telling his Mam & Dad that he did nothing for 45 overs, never got a bat and was shouted at when he misfielded a ball. Now I know not everyone can get a bat or a bowl most weeks, but if I was his parents, he'd never play for that club again if that's the way they treat their players. Absolute disgrace.

Anyway! Opposition got 223 for 9 (declared) and we put up much more of a fight this week and ended up 214 for 9.

P.S. To top it off one of their lads punched a hole in our dressing room wall! They'll be getting a bill!

Top scuff that fella and in the right spirit by you guys and it a shame the lad didn't get a go.

May have been some sarcasm involved in that comment. Not everyone is out to bag you.

Well done on the start to the season though.

@JB! Thought you might pop up!  :D

Yeah it all got pretty tasty after you left! The wife and niece had just turned up too so I was pretty eager to keep them away from it all - never have I seen a pavilion empty as quick as everyone went after them! Shame really as it overshadowed what turned out to be a competitive game in the end.

Nevermind though - if the league have any common sense I'm sure they'll do the right thing. Just a shame that by this point - the umpire had already hot footed away in his car.

Some people  can get very envious so ignore them and keep scoring runs I will be happy if I score 176 all season

Hate travelling travel miles 40 plus for an home game  around 90 for certain  away  matches no fun and a right pain.
