Had to play in the 4XI due to injury on Saturday. Nice to actually win a game after 3 defeats. Managed to somehow score 96. Not the greatest innings of my life but still good to get some runs and not end the game on crutches.

What surprised me at the game was how quickly people can just abuse the umpire. This was a division 7 match and one of our bowlers just lost it at the oppositions umpire after he called a wide down leg. It was all just a bit over the top.
I've noticed this a lot this season. On Friday we had an LBW appeal given against a batsman and as he took off for the leg bye before being given, he ended up 'windmilling' his bat towards the umpire. I honestly thought he was going to let go of the bat.

Another thing I've noticed is opposition players having a go at people for not being given out LBW. When did this start to happen? On Saturday we had a wicketkeeper having a go at our batsman for that very reason, he soon piped down when he was told it was the umpires decision and he should toddle off back behind the stumps before he had a bat wrapped round his head! :D

First league game for Trowbridge Saturday, top scored with 60 off roughly 20/25 overs so pretty pleased (decent start at least!).

We ended on 227-8 and bowled them out for 181 - bearing in mind they were 131-1 it was a decent comeback by all accounts.

Made my umpiring debut on Saturday ;-)

My club lost the toss and the oppo hit 297 off their 45 overs - mainly helped by a really mediocre display in the field. Needing nearly 7 an over, we were 20-0 off 10 and the run chase never got going, finishing around 210ao. I didn't have anything too difficult to call, a really obvious caught behind and a few reasonably plumb lbws.

It was enjoyable overall, same again next week.

Had our 2nd league game of the season and 2nd on the trot at home, we lost the toss and got put in to bat - we were playing on the same track as the week before due to that game only lasting 60 overs - we got rolled for 46 last Saturday! And knowing our pitch i really thought that it would only get worse to bat on, so was actually quite happy to be walking out to open up 1st.

I was going along really nicely and felt great, got to 67 at just under a run a ball and then my captain completely sold me down the river and ran me out! Really missed a chance for 3 figures early in the season. We made 250/8 off our 44 overs in the end which is exactly what i thought the pitch was worth.

But towards the end there was definite signs of up and down and more turn - and as i thought it got worse and worse and we rolled the oppo for 135 with the pitch definitely playing a part in a few dismissals.

There was a lot of chat after the game about whether tracks should be used 2 games in a row like that etc... but at the end of the day they won the toss and bowled.

Yesterday was our first game of the season.

At the crease. Remember the training you've put in pre-season, take it easy, head to ball, take it easy, watch the bowler, take it easy, light on my feet, left elbow up and straight, enough feel in the back swing, see what he does, watch it out of his hand, take it easy, ball is in the air, oh I can clobber this one, a big swing and a miss later brings you to reality. Luckily, the ball missed the stumps about as much as I missed the first ball.

I'd like to add that this year our club isn't fielding an all women's team so last Sunday I was batting along side one of them. It was quite unusual to get on the spot batting tips from a current international player. Nothing special in advice, just all the stuff you think you're doing but you're not.

Tuesday night is 16 over Evening League.

We batted first and posted 140-4 (DNB again) then bowled them all out for about 100

I finally got some wickets taking 3-19 off 3

yes it's the fielding for us senior citizens that takes it's toll. if the oppo bat first we could be in the field 55 overs.

part of the reason ive deceided to get a decent pair of cricket spikes with a lot of support, also got two ankle supports

Perhaps you should make a point saying Spinners are the new opening Batsmen? Sunil Narine for instance?

Played at the weekend with no umpires. Shocking for a division 3 game.
We got 144 all out, threw it away from a decent start against some poor oppo.
They knocked off thanks to some lets just say very favourable decisions.
No excuses for the batting though.
Ended up with 13-3-39-1 Although I made the mistake of leaving the first ball I faced that turned a decent amount straight into my off pole.
