I hate batting too!!! I was rubbish, dropped twice and almost run out , before top edging the worst bowler I have ever faced.
only highlight of the day was watching @Northern monkey smash 24 of one over.

That was the hottest I've ever played cricket in, especially after chasing the ball for 40 odd overs, shoulda maybe brought myself onto bowl a little sooner, but I was trying to give everyone a go really.
Nice to see you bowl Jason!

yep nice to see me bowl, but I think my dog could have bowled maidens against that lot.

we really need some batting in our middle order.

Golden duck last week, second ball duck this week, no matter where I hit the ball someone takes a blinder of a catch, this game is so goddamn annoying sometimes

@jblowe what does your dog bowl? If they can hold a bat too we'll happily select them next Saturday!

Another week, another league oppo cry off. We made the trek north to Leicestershire for a friendly against Mossdale Teachers. Very hot and the oppo kindly let us bat first. We spent most of the innings scratching up 161 in 42 overs against a modest attack on what appeared to be a decent track according to the locals. At tea we thought we were 20-30 short of par but thanks to a tight bowling performance we kept them to 93-6 off 38. Technically under Leicester league rules a draw but we had the bragging rights. Despite my best efforts not to bat I scored 4* at 11. Only bowled because my 5 seamers were knackered and picked up 5-16.

Probably looking for pastures new on a Saturday because I am getting seriously fed up with the complete lack of co-ordination between the 1st and 2nd XI skippers. Saturday's match was just a continuation of a theme where the 1st team skipper waits until Friday evening before asking the 2nd XI skipper for players. Saturday afternoon, myself and 8 other players spent the best part of 3 hours retrieving the ball from various parts of the boundary and beyond as our hosts posted nearly 300. However their teas were just as good as their batting (chicken butties with stuffing and apple sauce) which went some way to cheering me up at the interval.  My issue is if they sorted the team out together on Monday or Tuesday then I might be able to persuade some people on Wednesday or Thursday but I am going to have little success if I try this at 10pm on a Friday evening.

Today was even worse as we hosted a side who, let's just say, will not be invited back next summer.

One of my old teams had this problem until the second team captain told the first team captain that he and all the second team players would be turning their phones off Thursday and Friday.

A boiling hot weekend which saw me contribute nothing to my side again, taking wickets and having a low economy rate obviously mean nothing.

Sometimes I wonder why I bother playing cricket!

I actually sent an almost identical message to the 2nd XI skipper on Thursday night.

There is one positive from the scorching hot weekend and that is I've lost around 3kgs in weight and yesterday (Sunday) felt so physically good that I was able to run for the first time this summer.  This is in stark contrast to the season prior to this weekend when I have barely been able to do much more than walk. In fact I was even fielding long-on at both ends towards the tail end of the opposition innings.

An interesting game on Sat on the hottest day of the year, quite clearly a win the toss and bat 1st day which we obv opted for having won the toss.

being 25-0 off of 2 overs was a good start with their opener bowling 6 wides in his 1st over....the YM collapse then began, i shouldered arms to one that cut back and took off which wasnt idea. We found ourselves 86/8 and thankfully had some experience down to order that got us upto 130/9 and then 161 AO.

They were 2nd in the league and we sat 2nd bottom after a particularly poor start to the season, they were quite chipper and their Aussie had copious amounts to say about everyones kit/batting when we came and departed to the crease.

With a club event happening on the evening with around 100 people inc ex-players turning up to watch us finish off our game i think this gave us some incentive to pull our finger out and we skittled them for 67 inc the Aussie being cleaned out by a 1st ball yorker...he's prob only just made it off the outfield now his walk off was so slow.

Great partnership between Mr. Shufflebotham and Mr. Wides.

Hope you bought them a jug apiece.

My season is getting worse. I have played 2 and a half games so far, and I just found out that I might miss the next 7 weeks due to an Art Exhibition. It it states in my contract that the artist MUST attend at the weekends (Damn small print).  Hope the weather is nice in August!!!
