Bat horizontal break - Storm Damage?
« on: May 01, 2017, 09:28:23 AM »

Hi All,

Bat broke yesterday playing a fairly non-descript forward defensive. I don't seem able to attach a pic for some reason but it's a pretty clean horizontal break just below the splice. First time this has happened to me so my questions are 1) am I right in thinking this is storm damage and 2) how likely are manufacturers to replace? Part of my issue is that I was not the original purchaser.

Any advice or help would be much appreciated.

Tks

Depends on how old and and if you could get original receipt from previous owner.

Sounds like the obvious cause but, tight handle?

I'd class that as a manufacturing defect.

Thanks, I've emailed Chase and hopeful that they are of the same opinion.

I'd say that pretty clearly storm damage or a handle
fitting issue (possibly storm damage exacerbated by being near the splice), can't see any way they'd not replace that.

Thanks for adding the pic. Real shame as the bat was going very well, hoping Chase are happy to replace.

Could be a combination of the two,

Very clean break suggests Storm Damage more than tight handle for me at least.

Storm damage, tight handle. This is like a game of CBF bingo!

All we need for a line now is "glue & clamp"... :-[

Fine lines going horizontally across the back of the bat is a good indication of storm damage. Look carefully if they are on this bat.

Horrible when this happens I've been there myself last season.

Seriously mate. No way is that a manufacturing fault. It IS "Storm Damage " !!

Interesting point re the fine lines. I've checked and there are very fine lines running down one side of the back of the bat, not something I would have picked up on before. Re the manufacturer's fault vs storm damage I guess that's the key, are they - Chase in this case - liable? Hopefully find out their thoughts tomorrow after the BH.
Thanks for all the replies.

I did say after the picture was uploaded that it looked more like storm damage. That'll teach me for making a judgement before seeing the evidence!

This type of damage is difficult, no fault of the owner, no fault of the maker. One of those things.

Hope Chase see you right.
