Warming Up
«
on:
June 28, 2017, 01:18:26 PM »
I need to jog and stretch before I do anything on a cricket pitch or in nets. Partly my 33 year old body and partly a habit from playing hockey since I was a kid. What surprises me is that I rarely see anyone even stretch let alone do a moderate warm up.
Why don't people warm up? I'm just curious.

Part laziness part incredibly unfit and knackered after an embarrassing amount of time
I know there's only one person who can fix that but it comes back to the lazy, I've started and stopped trying to get fit and warming up for that matter more times than I can count!

I'm pretty unfit but I just worry I'll pull something if I don't stretch. Probably more mental than physical for me.

We always throw an American football around or kick a football, little light jogging involved in both and stretching if you feel needed.
Gets rhe muscles warm at least

Carrying my bag into the changing rooms is about as much warm up as I get
Used to knock up a bit before games oop north, but no one seems too fussed down sarf
I'm sure the prem teams etc do the usual warm ups

i've always done fielding warmups for 15-20 mins before games, but that always seems a bit pointless when you end up batting first
this season my club doesn't really warm up as much and i've noticed that i've had more aches and strains so maybe there's a correlation!

Two 4's are better than a 6!

We usually warm up for 10 mins as a team and then some players do an extra bit based on their needs. I keep stretching even during our fielding as it helps after the game.

Does smoking a fag and kicking a football about count?
my excuse is that stretching and warm ups actually increase the risk of pulled muscles. Think about it, young kids at the park never pull muscles and never stretch/warm up. The only time I have pulled muscles playing sport is when, as a youngster, I have stretched beforehand.

Warm up should be gradual - starting with mild/low intensity activity to more vigorous. Once you feel your body has warmed up, only then you stretch.

How early are you meeting?
They aren't even serving the breakfast menu when I get "stuck in traffic" (there is normally a slow moving queue going round the drive-thru)

Quick jog, stretch, football (old vs young), catching drills, ground field job done. 45mins from start to finish.
