The stickers should stick fine, your issue will be the ink smudging upon contact with a ball - unless they're laminated stickers it's unlikely they'll last long.Saying that if its a young lad I can't imagine the forces involved will be anything like adult cricket, may well do the job actually (can't say I've ever tested non-laminated stickers on kids cricket!).
Yeah bit of an odd one but I am thinking he could choose and we'd just put them on the back.
Another idea would be to buy an extra length of clear scuff sheet and simply put a layer over any stickers you put on the front. Once cut to length the scuff should hold them in place and prevent any smudging too.
