I'm a big fan of Newbury, never seen a bad one.  Was wondering if anyone has seen/has one of the newer lower grade ones that are Indian made and finished in England.

If/when I get a new Newbury it will have to be one of these grades ( the budget won't stretch to anything more).

I'd just buy an Aldred butterfly? Same batmaker as the more expensive Newberys, made to order for you and less money. If you really want Newbery stickers then they're not exactly hard to come by - all win?

Hang on. I'm obviously late to the party, but are we saying that Paul makes bats for Newbery?
If so, does that mean Paul, Newbery and an Indian batmaker all make Newbery bats?
Or have I got the wrong end of several sticks?

Newbury haven't made bats themselves in about 10 years, they are a brand like Slazenger

No you've pretty much grasped the stick firmly. I'm not sure how many Newbery bats 'Newbery' are making. The old relationship with the classic batmaker turned sour.

Have seen a few in the league, big bats, very dry, seen two with chunks break off so far this year, also been hit for some big sixes with them.

I think it is incorrect to assume SF bats will be same as SF made newbery bats as designs, shapes could be different in addition to the agreements on quality which could differ as well. We know, SG made kook bats, but I never felt kook and Sg bats ping the same, the pressing, sound of the ball, all looked different to me - just saying as an example. At least from the pics online, none of the newbery shapes look like SF shapes or even close.

I assume the same will be said to the people suggesting buying an Aldred? This is a man who went on at length about soft pressing and pro pressing being nonsense (which i broadly agree with) but now quite happily produces bats for Newbery with soft, medium or hard pressing, and not only that but each press comes with varying warranty types.....

That is interesting!

Paul is a great bat maker and he should address these conflicting statements around pressing.

I wonder if he meant that there is a hard pressing (performance free) to protect bat makers against warranty claims and then there is a not-so-hard (hence soft pressing) to give a cleft (and later a finished bat) optimum ping while taking a risk, as a bat maker, on a warranty claim (meaning early breakage).
