I think gloves are very important. I like ones that are a tight fit and not too bulky. I find they alter how you grip the bat and some are far more comfortable than others. I�ve tried many brands but always go for Puma personally.
The quality of the protection is not a major factor for me as i rarely get hit on the hands.

You can get perfectly decent gloves for �20-30, and they should last you 5-10 years easily.

If you wear inners and bat number 11 then yes...

I get very sweaty when batting, I have 3 pairs of gloves in my bag and they all get a fair amount of use

I agree. My puma platinum 5000�s were �20 posted. To get a good deal just wait and buy a pair from last years range.
My gloves last around 3 years before they get a bit ragged. I don�t wear inners but change gloves if I�m still in T the drinks breaks. I wash them a few times each season too.
Older gloves leave grubby marks on my white bat grips.

One very bad broken finger, surgery, 5 weeks with a wire poking out of my hand and then another lot of surgery was enough to convert me to the expensive glove club, add to that the fact that I sweat alot means I usually have 3-4 pairs of gloves in my bag, I work on the basis of one new pair every year and then turf or donate the oldest pair.

All you have to remember is that it only takes 1 whack on the hand/fingers and that's your season or longer over...... and that doesn't matter whether you bat 1 or 11.... granted it is more likely to happen if you face quicker bowling but it can still happen if you play lower levels on worse pitches.

That is easily enough reason to buy gloves that give you very good protection.... that doesn't mean you can't search for a bargain though.

The other reasons are that with better grip, feel, sizing, comfort - it is certainly better/nicer/helps your batting.

Personally, i open the batting so face the quicks, so i wear mid/top of the range gloves for this reason, i have 3 pairs on rotation to help them last longer.

Even the cheapest gloves nowadays are better and more protective than top of the range stuff from a decade ago. The gloves I wear, which are basic GM gloves from 2010 that are getting slightly ragged but are still perfectly functional, are better than anything test batsmen wore in the 90s.

If you play cricket long enough you'll eventually get a few injuries. I've had broken ribs, permanent nerve damage in my thigh, broken finger, broken nose, I got a bruised ankle whilst playing in Barbados and couldn't walk for a week. Its just part of the game. I got hit on the head once by a bouncer and hooked the next 4 balls for 6.

There are holes in each thumb where the leathers been worn away, but no reason to throw them away. After about 5,000 runs, they're just getting nicely worn in.

I had to throw my old gloves away because the holes had all joined together. I've never used inners, I like to feel the bat as closely as possible.

It's now 2018, 2010 is biggest part of a whole decade ago.

Sorry , but that's just a very untrue statement re cheapest gloves today are better than the best gloves from a decade ago ! Case in point , cheapest gloves today often /mostly don't have carbon/plastic reinforced protection on any finger , let alone all fingers , and the leather quality in dodgy cow leather. You're statement is even more incorrect when i can remember buying g.n (ultimate 750?) gloves ....their first triple split finger ,top of the range ,gloves , when i was in year 10....so that was 1994. They were awesome quality , sheeps leather , plastic reinforced beauties. They were miles better than a lot of mid range gloves today for both comfort and protection.
Perhaps the fact you only buy gloves once a decade leaves you a bit too out of the loop to make such comparisons ?
