As it stands the ICC have left it down to individual national governing bodies to implement it into their amateur leagues. To my knowledge the ECB have not announced anything for 2018 so a league deciding to do it off their own back would surely need a majority vote from it's members (the clubs) at an AGM....

If an ump wants to tell me my bat is illegal fine but he and the league will be getting the bill for a new one

Okay first class as free kit but not at amateur level

The first cricket box was used in 1874.  The first cricket helmet was introduced in 1974. So, it took 100 years for men to twig that their brains were also worth protecting.

Well said that man. I'm not a fan of huge edges myself and don't know the size of my current bat ,however it looks like it's coming in on our level.

Presumably the umps measures your bat and its 42mm whatever, tells you it cannot be used, your team mates won't lend you one so the umpire then gives you out as well.  :)

I'll probably struggle to find a legal bat in the collection

Exactly. It's ridiculous to expect amateur cricketers to go and buy a new bat. Shouldn't even be remotely considered below Prem Div level and even then it's still a daft idea. Hard enough for clubs to get 2nd and 3rd XI's playing but now you might have to convince people to go and spend a fortune on new kit as well. Good un.
