Shortening a long handle!
« on: February 05, 2010, 11:22:10 AM »

Shortening a handle is it a straightforward task and can any off the bat makers do it or is it a rehandle job?

Have a new flare dxm from gm and as I sent in a long handle which I used to use they replaced like for like, however I have since switched back to short handle and would like the handle shortened.

 Any help?

Maybe it would be better to send to gm to do the work?

Same solution I guess all, send it to GM? I know that Dan @ Vantage did a shortening of a handle for golders the other week I think... :) - hope that's useful to you mate!

can you not saw it and add a little counter balance until it feels right to sort out balancing issues? or is it very much a "send it to ge tit done proffessionally" thing...

Well its a Pro's bat so unless its an easy DIY job its probably worth sending it off.

There is a knob of the top of most handles, the main reason I'd get in done in a workshop is that they would remove the binding, cut the top off and then cut off the knob and refit it by drilling dowels down through the top of the handle and then rebind and glue. Doing it at home carrys the risk of having the binding come off or go loose which would effect the performance and lifespan.
