I can see why the smaller counties would feel that they should be compensated for the loss of their best young players but, looking at the bigger picture, they are only able to keep going because of the money they receive from the ECB who in turn want the best players playing against each other in Divison 1 of the CC. In some cases, it is questionable what value the ECB gets for its investment, particularly when a side uses some of the money to bring in journey man Kolpaks but looking at it overall, the CC isn't financially sustainable in its own right so the best young players leaving in search of opportunities to play international cricket is the price to pay for the competition being bank rolled by the ECB
