The only thing I could think is that his contract with GN had been signed ready for 1st Jan 2018 and that when Adidas found out he was jumping ship they terminated his contract early. Still you would have thought the new sponsor would have sorted something out for the Ashes.

Sounds plausible but id have thought 3 Ashes tests of exposure would have been better than none for Adidas

Me too but I can't think of a logical reason why either the previous sponsor or the new sponsor would miss out on the biggest show in town?
