If SA were served up this pitch in say the west indies - I assume FAF and the coach would've been up in arms like they usually are

Happy for a pitch to misbehave on day 5 like in Aus, but from day-1 and getting worse is unsafe.

Casing point with that elgar leave, a normal leave with his hands in the air - ball striking him up on the gloves. SA have little chance of chasing this

So elgar has been hit on the helmet and the umpires decide to take the players off. SA keen to get the game called off now given they are not in a great position?

Looks that way.

Personally, I don't see what the fuss is.  There was a lot of reference today to the Sabina Park pitch in 97 or thereabouts, but this is far from the same.  SP had huge cracks all over plus a ridge, so the ball could literally go anywhere and do anything.  This, one grubber apart, has only had extreme bounce, augmented by conditions that promote swing.  Its not like umpires cancel Tests on day one when its a road like Melbourne- say on the grounds that in heat of 35 degrees a bowler might get heat stroke.

Test match to continue

SA not very keen to get out there - obviously their not in the best position in this match.

Personally think it should’ve been called off after the first innings. Surprised no broken fingers - testament to the quality of gloves these days.

Let’s hope no one seriously gets injured.

See SA being rolled over for 120 - cloud covers going to make it impossible to bat

It's not Sabina park 1998....but it's a bad pitch that's for sure.
Holding saying 'I give this 2 marks, not out of 10 out of a hundred'  :)

Umpires nowadays more likely to call it off In case of injury and it looked like the discussions on the pitch from the clips posted that's what they were talking about.
The pitch does not look too dry so I wonder why it's flying off a length?

but game on and could be an entertaining day to watch.

theres not been anything dangerous in the first hour , it's a bit overcast maybe that has something to do with how the pitch plays, ball is a bit older as well. There's bounce and movement but batsmen are not in danger at the moment

How wrong was I in thinking SA would be all out for 120!

Gutsy performance from amla and Elgar

Amla did too, even on his top hand. Excessively on the bottom hand

Pitch seems to have gone, doing all sorts now. Few of the SA bowlers in danger.

Patel’s the first on the injury list with a broken finger

Has anyone got any pictures of their taped gloves?
And would it realistically improve the protection?
