2018 IPL Retention & Auction
« on: January 03, 2018, 05:11:14 PM »

With the IPL fast approaching, the franchises are announcing their retained players tomorrow, and the list doing the rounds at the moment of retained players is:

Mumbai Indians: Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya

Chennai Super Kings: MS Dhoni, Suresh Raina, Ravindra Jadeja (Dwayne Bravo, if fit, may be reserved for the Right to Match list)

Kolkata Knight Riders: Chris Lynn, Sunil Narine

Sunrisers Hyderabad: David Warner, Deepak Hooda

Royal Challengers Bangalore: Virat Kohli, Yuzvendra Chahal, AB de Villiers

Delhi Daredevils: Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer

Rajasthan Royals: Steve Smith

Kings XI Punjab: There is a high possibility that Punjab might not retain any of their players

I'm guessing Rajasthan (effectively Rising Pune Supergiant) aren't retaining Ben Stokes because of the CPS case, but I'd definitely pick up a cheap Overseas who can become 'injured' should he not be sent to Pentonville.....

Also, I'd be surprised if RCB don't retain Gayle, given he's one of the most marketable players at the moment, as well as the best ever T20 batsman.

Rashid Khan will be retained, jut too risky if he goes back into the auction and they use their right to match card for god knows how much!

Thoughts? Who else do you think will be retained, and who will go for big bucks? I'm thinking Munro will be bought for a decent amount, but not mega bucks (not marketable enough), AJ Tye will be bought for a decent wedge andi've a sneaking suspicion Jos Buttler might well go for some serious money. Not a massive number of Indian Wicketkeepers (who are any good), if he keeps striking them clean in the BBL, could be a few pennies for young Joseph...

Afghanistan have a lot of cricket in the build up to their maiden Test match, maybe Rashid and Nabi won't be available for the entire duration.

I thought CSK and Rajasthan could only retain players from prior to their bans, so RR Can't retain Stokes.

Good to see Malinga and Harbhajan losing their free meal tickets, they've been regressing for a while.

Jos Buttler is essentially only being as a specialist batsman, the times he kept to the spinners he was dreadful. Mumbai may well right to buy Jos and Pollard.

Big dog Andre Russell should go for big cash as well as Mitchell Starc.

Good stuff. I'm really looking forward to seeing each team's tactics with regards to retaining vs Right To Match (RTM).

Think you've got more or less everything there. I think Bhuvi, Bumrah and Kuldeep will be retained by SRH, MI and KKR respectively as opposed to RTM. Do we expect Delhi to retain QdK as well?

Looking forward to seeing what happens with loyal IPL stalwarts such as Pollard, Ashwin and Gayle given the other players that each of their respective teams could retain instead of them.

What about the new kid on the block Jofra? Is he available for the auction, think there could be a few in for him nice little pay packet?

Agree with what's been said about Malinga and Harbajan, brilliant on their day but that day comes around a lot less often than it used to.

Stokes could potentially be a bargain buy at a cut price even of its just for a few games

They were temporarily suspended and replaced with Gujarat.

They are allowed to retain the players from Gujarat, as they are replacing them (I think)

I might be miles off and am open to being shouted down if necessary!  :D

Does anybody outside of india still watch the IPL? Felt to me as though it has just Turned into one corrupt money laundering event and spoiled my view of it.

Yeah.. I just think its a good show. I really would like to go to some of the bigger games at the end of the tournament... I think the atmosphere would be brilliant.

Some of the picks are a joke! Andre Russell hasnt played competitive cricket for an year. Do they really expect him to come back and perform well? Sarfaraz Khan...RCB didnt bother playing him earlier and now have retained him. Did they expect others to go crazy about someone who hasnt really set the world on fire? Axar Patel retained by KXIP!! ... :o :o :o

Nice wedge for Virat, just the small sum of $2.68m and $1.7m for AB.

Narine $1.3m and $1.1m for Russell...no wonder they Can't be bothered to play for West Indies

Rishabh Pant $1.1m for the teen ager...when I was 19 i was getting hammered at university...
