What to buy?
« on: February 11, 2018, 03:13:54 PM »

Honestly tired of owning 5-6 bats now. They have all turned out to be average performers  :(

All of them have fairly small sweetspots. I have heard so much about fairly big (& forgiving) middles that I envy you folks.

Feel like selling all of these and buy one that I would really enjoy using.

Budget: ~200 GBP
Weight: 2.10 - 2.11
Edge: don't care
# of Grains: don't care
Concaving: don't care

Just need 1 that performs.. and I understand what performance means. Had one before these, which was magnificent alas broke.

Suggestions? Should I buy one that would weigh more, to gain on performance?

Buy a custom from @Neon Cricket and you'll get a decent stick

Blank Bats every day for me - really well priced, classy stickers, shaped and pressed by the best in the business.

Red Ink are top notch too and Johnwill probably be able to make almost anything you want within your budget. A proper custom experience for 200 - not many places offering that sort of value.

Have also seen some of Adam at Neon's bats at a net last year and they were great too - big bats with lovely shapes.

@cesare_in, this a great question and I wish I had had asked that before I bought so many bats and wasted so much money.

The lesson that I learned is that instead of buying so many average bats, you save your money and buy top of the line bats made by the master bat maker(s). If I were giving my younger self advice, I'd tell him to save up and buy bats made by Stuart Kranzbuhler of GN-AUS. I have a few of his bats (2-10 and up) they are all trampolines! I have net with a XXX-11 at 2-8 weight and it had an unbelievable ping! Talk to Bob Mueleman at Mueleman's cricket in Australia and he will set you in the right direction. See if you can land an XP-80 2000 from him. You will find a lot of great options in 2-10/2-11 weight range.

With the fantastic discount offer to forum members, a Kippax is suddenly very close to your budget. Test match players are happy with them, might be exactly what you're looking for.

Best I’ve seen for a while is the Aussie gn,s,,, the sk made ones
Ridiculous performance for the size and weight
Nothing I’ve seen comes close, pay whatever they cost, there’s no way you will be disappointed

Thank you @InternalTraining! How do I go about contacting GN-Aus?

I agree with @InternalTraining SK made bats are possibly the safest option, unbelievable pick up and performance right away

Thru Mueleman. Great service if you are overseas. Ask for Bob. As I stated earlier, you'd have to save up for a Stuart Kranzbuhler bat, they are not cheap. :)

For me I'd say there are three or four main options and I'll list the pros and cons of each in my eyes.

Tim Keeley made bats - there are several brands that exist and if you'd like a list of a few then PM me. Pro's: world renowned bat maker, bats all pressed really well and all have good forgiving middles. Cons: flat gave means the shoulders crack for fun and most have skinny handles.

Stuart Kranzbhuler made bats : any GN aus made bats. Pros: heard nothing but positive reviews, all big and most are light, a world renowned brand that a plethora of pros use, they can't all be wrong. Cons: so bloody expensive!!!

Hunts County made bats - pros: down to earth brand that produce consistent sticks. Price is usually really good. Cons, your less likely to get a. Super low density, stunningly grainy cleft due to a slightly lower volume of wood passing through their hands compared to the other two.

Chase cricket - fantastic brand, control every part of the process including growing and felling of trees great value for money, forgiving profiles and a great price. Cons: most have Mid-low middles and so if you want anything higher there is a 30 pound charge for a bespoke. Option, however you can go to the factory and have it made in front of you with your choice of cleft. Worth it IMO.

No need to contact Bob in Australia, I have a very nice unused XP80 2000 in the sale section, it is above the OPs stated budget, but at a price much lower than it would cost to buy and import your own to the U.K.
