Few Made Over The Weekend
« on: February 19, 2018, 01:23:02 PM »

Okay, so this could go under the Fugly Section! - Mid Middle - Spine into the toe.

Tried to copy my XX SSH - But a few alteration to get the pick up good.

XX copy looks a cracking effort mate.👍

Its pretty close, and slightly lighter on the scales than the XX.

Very happy as the Spine is dead straight - the other one is 95% straight!

But, the pick up on the Fugly is amazing!

Great effort @Churchy1989 well done - second bat profile looks absolutely superb!

Have you been making these with traditional tools?

Missed this last night, will get the ruler out!

Great effort @Churchy1989 well done - second bat profile looks absolutely superb!

Have you been making these with traditional tools?

Drawknife to start - then a Spokeshave - different spoke for the shoulder. My plane is not sharp enough to use - and i am a bit lazy to sharpen.

Spoke does lovely long clean shavings - happy to take my time.

Question, why use a rasp for the handle? Whats wrong with a spoke then a sand?

My 4 little babies - Almost have more i have made than bought!

Why the range of sizes @Churchy1989 ? Do you have customers lined up already?! Hope so. What's your branding going to look like?

So the First 'Fugly' one:-

5mm shorter than a SH
Shoulder: 17mm
Edge: 39.5mm
Spine: 65.2mm
Toe: 21.9mm
Middle Toe: 35m
Width: 109mm (shhh)
Weight: 2lbs 11oz on the nose (1 grip no scuff).

Next my XX Copy:-

SSH
Shoulder: 16.3mm
Edge: 34.7mm
Spine: 65.3mm
Toe: 21.5mm
Middle Toe: 29.8m
Width: 108.5mm (shhh)
Weight: 2lbs 11oz on the nose again!(1 grip no scuff).

Whilst i am here i will do the Butterfly:-

SH
Shoulder: 18.6mm
Edge: 38.2mm
Spine: 61.2mm
Toe: 26.3mm
Middle Toe: 33.2m
Width: 109.6mm (shhh)
Weight: 2lbs.11oz & 5/8ths (1 grip no scuff).

Why the range of sizes @Churchy1989 ? Do you have customers lined up already?! Hope so. What's your branding going to look like?

So i made the XX copy as the XX is just so lovely...and wanted to test my skills - very happy with the result.

The Butterfly i copied off a custom H4L that had great balance - also very happy with the result. Its slightly smaller but the original was 2lbs.13oz i think @simonmay5 can confirm.

The fugly, i just started shaping and just went with the flow to get a great pickup - also the first one i have used a spine all the way into the toe.

Sizing of the Fugly was just be not measuring where i was cutting the toe - noted for next time! (The bat on the left is the same size as the Butterfly - normal SH).

I need to do a final sand and buy a machine to buff next pay day, then these will be Demo bats most likely. Have 3 more to shape this weekend if i get time.

Designs are coming along but not there - probably a month or 2 off!

they look great!!
i struggle blending the shoulders. due to this i take the easier option of using a file then sanding. all credit to you for doing it the correct way!
congrats on a job well done.
