I used 01 tool steel.
I made a little coffee can forge,(you tube)
I forged the curve as per my existing travisher,(bought off here), and forged it around my lathe chuck and my vice, very easy to do tbh
The cutting angle is a challenge to grind and get perfect as it’s a very sharp angle, but tbh I enjoy sharpening them so no worries really
I’ve made one wood body out of oak, and that is shaped to my hands and to the way I use it,(I pull the travisher towards me).
These other ones, I’m going to make a couple of different design bodies, just to try them out.

I’ve seen the price of these online etc, and they are a lot of money .

The draw knife is a lot easier to make, but obviously it costs a lot more for the steel

Very cool!  Thanks for the pics and explanation :)

I remember that getting an even bevel on a curved blade was a tricky process.
The price and availability of these was also my main driver in attempting to make my own.

Easier if you grind the bevel before forging the curve, then it’s just a case of sharpening the edge afterwards

Sweet!  Looks every bit as good as anything else on the market.

If you don't mind, what are the measurements of the curve for your typical blade - specifically, the distance between the outer edges of the blade, and the depth of the curve between those points?
