On loan with a different team today but the contrast between this week and last could not have been more stark.  Every time I bowled straight, the opposition batsmen heaved across the line towards a very short leg side boundary with varying degrees of success. I did pick up a wicket, bowled, but my 5 overs went for a lot. After tea I didn't have any better luck with the bat as I premeditated the first delivery I faced from a medium pacer was going to be short but only to get bowled by something very full. I have probably been watching too much IPL but my rationale was almost every one of his previous deliveries would not have hit the stumps so thought I would take a step and leg to free my arms. Very frustrating because I had just smacked the young spinner at the other end for 2 boundaries and should have simply played the ball on its merits.  Note to myself, I am not MS Dhoni.

We only had 5 cricketers and the rest were fill-ins due to a team mates wedding. Consequently they hit 360/6 and bowled us out for 120. I got a season best of 27 before a short ball bowled me around the ankles. Got six points out of it which was six more than we would have got if we had cancelled. Thanks to the he 6 non-crickets who helped us out.

Team lost score of 0  for me umpire let the bowler bowl before I was ready and I stabbed at the ball to late and was bowled.
Should have stepped away
Worst start to the season I can remember

Won again today, batted first and made 30 before trying to cut one from the off spinner that was a little to close and chopped into the base of my off stump, 1st time I have been out this season, after carrying my bat in the last 2 games. Made another 50+opening stand so all good on that front. We went from 105-1 to 113-4 before a great middle partnership got us to 217-7 from 45 overs.

In reply that started well although we didnt bowl that well. Oppo openers got to 75-0 before we got a wicket. Before this the opener had middled one into my gloves but gave it the “if I think i edged it I’d walk crap” and padded up to 3 arm balls from the spinner but umpires had a combined age of 150+ and couldn’t see or hear anything. Almost needed a speaker for them to hear what guard you were asking for.
Any way we got them to105-6 and they closed shop ending there innings 168-7 so 17 points for us and top of the table

Big win yesterday, chasing 198/8 in 34 overs and only 3 down.

Lost toss and bowled first, took two catches and nearly got a run out. First catch was nailed at me by the Bexhill overseas, caught it above my head about 20 yards from the bat. Second catch was again at square leg, but a shovel off the hip coming off the top ere towards backward square meant I had to sprint and dive for it. Run out chance actually clipped the bail at the bowlers end, having gone from square to 45 to pick up and throw, with the bat about 2 yards out but didn't take enough of the bail to knock it off. Probably my best ever all round fielding performance. Pity about my bowling, 5/0/30/0. Kept slipping in my delivery stride, ended up bowling 8 wides when slipping.

Lads who batted made it look easy really, one jug avoidance (44), two jugs (70 and 50*). Only the skipper was out cheaply, then a cameo at the end from my spin partner helped us over the line.

Yesterday was a very good day - my first ton, with the first bat I made! Absolutely over the moon. Scorecard below, they chased well  with one of theirs getting a ton but came up about 15 short.

My game was called off on Friday night so i offered to play for a mates team who only had 10 men. Ended up being quite literally the most village game i've ever played in, but still enjoyed it.

One boundary was literally 25 yards and it had to clear the trees on the boundary to be a six (local rules!) The pitch was ridiculous bouncy and green and was moving all over. We bowled first and let them get far too many (190) and i got given the small boundary leg-side for my first 3 overs of spin which got whacked, before i decided to go back to seam for the first time in 2 years and that came out much better. It's given me a lot to think about as i as hitting good areas with my seam and i've lost all my ability to bowl spin! I may go back to seam for good

Batting wise we were 50 all out. Offered to open as we were very light batting wise, made 13 (somehow top scored) in 10 overs before i chipped one up into the leg side and the bowler dived full length to pluck it 1 handed about an inch off the floor. It was an awful shot but a bloody good catch! We never looked like chasing it, and only 9 of us batted in quite literally the funniest thing i've ever seen in a cricket game.

Turns out the guy down to bat 10 was on tag and had to be home for his curfew at 7, and the guy batting 11 had to drive him home! So we 8 down all out! Brilliant  :D

Lost yesterday.

We batted 1st and I got 2. Played a bad shot to a good ball and 1st slip took a very good catch when the keeper left it.

We were 70-6 but thanks to some great late order hitting we got to 201. Which I thought was par but very dependable as the oppo were short a couple of batters.

However we then preceded to bowl and field some of the worse cricket I have seen at the club in a very long time. They got away to 12 an over for the 1st 8 overs! The won with 11 overs to spare!

Not a good day.

PS. Congrats to @edge great achievement that

They're still quite useful for pressing and handling to be fair ;)

Thanks all, I'm obviously made up. On a side note, highly recommend thinking hard about what makes you score runs and writing forum posts about it the day before a game, and also watching Pointing masterclass videos on YouTube before games!

All downhill for me now, and possibly time to retire
My 4yr old has just bowled me,,,not good
And there’s no way I’d face his big brother anymore, I think I need to think about umpiring?

On a side note, I can’t remember what I did yesterday, I’ve slept since then, I didn’t get many.
Played the crappest team I’ve ever played against , the standard seems to get worse every year

@edge brilliant, certainly that is one way to have the perfect bat, make it yourself...
