Another loss today in Middlesex as we posted 183 from 50 overs, they knocked them off in 30 only two down. A short boundary and lightning outfield meant we actually needed 283, not 183

On the plus side 72 from myself which I my highest league score for about 5 years.

Assisted by a light salix picked up on the bay, shout to seniorplayer for spotting that one!

They had a youth county medium pacer who was fairly quick so the light bat helped get in the right position.

Where's that debate about light bats v heavy bats again  :)

Well done Carlo on your 72 light bat  against the quicks every time you  can't  score runs with an heavy bat if your back in the pavilion.

they put us in. Started well but lost wickets quickly in the middle order. Came in no. 8 (to avoid ‘ringer’ rules) with the score 125/6 and hit 106* and put on 120 for the 7th wicket. We ended up about 250/8.
Bowled them out for about 140. I took 3-0-4-1.
My usual club didn’t have a game today (or for the next 2 weeks too) so played in the team I played in a few years ago.

74 not out for me today.  Chasing 214 which was impressive given they were 140-0 off 20.

I went in at 4 in the first over at 3-2 and we sllppied to 8-7 in what i can say was embaressing. I then batted out the draw. Longest innings i can remember batting. Taken my average for the season up to 90. Considering how dispointing my season has been until now it could be worse.

What was great was i tore three ligaments in my ankle 2 weeks ago and only managed to play with a huge ankle splint and wouldnt have done but for eid. So keeping and batting the entire innings is pleasing. My ankle looks like a ballon and i cant walk but worth it.

We fielded first, opposition made 262-4 off their 45 overs.

We lost 6 overs due to a rain delay so the revised target was 244 (ish) from 39

We were 123 all out and were never up with the rate.

8 (yes, eight!) dropped catches in the field didn't help our cause too much.

On a personal note my figures were crap and I got a duck. My kit may or may not appear on a popular auction website tomorrow depending how I feel about cricket following a sleep :(

Started the week by texting someone that both David and myself that we were available for a Thursday evening team only get a call from the mid-week secretary informing me that this week's skipper was refusing to have a David in his side. Told him, in that case, I wasn't playing either but on Wednesday morning there was a reversal of the skipper's position, probably because he couldn't get 11. Anyhow, I told him where to stick his match.

Today David and I played in front of Hovingham Hall which is the home of the Worlsey family including Sir William who captained Yorkshire County Cricket Club and where the Duchess of Kent was born.

In regards to match itself, it was a bit one-sided with the home side only managing to put out 9 players and given the forecast for later in the afternoon, I was surprised we chose to bat first (after winning the toss). We posted 255-5 off 45 overs and had them at 15-2 off 6 overs before the rain arrived but came disguised as a tropical monsoon which ended the match fairly swiftly. I did get 1 of those 2 wickets (an LBW decision) with what turned out to be the final ball of the match but on returning to my car, found it in 3-4 inches of water so had to drive home with soggy feet.

We won again yesterday, bowling the opposition out for 45 and knocking them off 5 down (some 'Interesting' umpiring made it look closer than it was as we has 3 lads sawn off with less than 10 to win!) Having made a slow start we are now 3 wins from 4 with the bottom two to play in the next 2 weeks. Hopefully we can keep building momentum and push up the league.

Happy to contribute again with 4/16 from 7.

In action again today in the cup.

A little late but nice one @DorsetDan .

After seeing you bat at last years southern nets I said you play way better than what you give yourself credit for.

Strange game of all strange games yesterday.

We win the toss and batted first. Pitch was lovely to say the least.
We batted well and battled to 196 for 8 from our 46

I got caught behind for 16 by fellow forumite hallamkeeper.

They set off like a train! 55 for 0 after 5 overs when the rain came!!(we did not want back on)

2 hrs later and we are back out. Ground wet, wicket dry blue skies.

There opener still going at a stupid rate, but the other end losing wickets regularly.
Umpire declared the last hour rule at 7 am(20overs and we are done)
The opener charged out of the blue(had been pretty correct up until then) and was bowled. He first time we thought we had a sniff off victory.

7down, good partnerships it looked like there’s again, but Hallam keeper played a reverse sweep and was bowled.
Next ball bowled again. 9down with 20 odd needed and about 6 overs left.

Some strike farming meant we struggled to get number xi on strike. And the runs wasn’t coming.

Last over, 9 needed, we needed one wicket.

First ball, dropped at midwicket as he went for the boundary...... and then he blocked out. 3 leaves and 2 forward defenses.

Bit if an anticlimax. But the points were shared. Good game to be fair.

First league win of the season yesterday for the twos, beating 2nd in the league. Bowled first and our opener bowled a fantastic spell, removing both openers in a spell of 9 overs 9-3. They were a very strong batting side but we kept on managing to pick up wickets. Some with a bit of luck, like their best player managing to miscue a longhop to first slip off the back of his bat. They finished 174-9 off 45. I was very happy with my bowling spell, getting 24-2 off my 9 overs.

Came in at 24-1 and managed to trash my Salix with a big split in the toe. That's the second bat I've written off in just over a week! :( Then I was very unhappy with my dismissal. Got a chest high full toss, pulled it but got a top edge down to deep fine leg. He caught it, but both our umpires didn't give it as a no ball. Couldn't believe it and neither could the rest of our team sitting on the side! When your struggling to get some form going it doesn't help when your own team mates stitch you up!  :(  Our no.4, who was injured so could barely run, then proceeded to smash 60 of 45 balls. Their heads went down and, despite a few soft wickets given away, we coasted home with 10 overs to spare.

Yesterday's game had one hell of a start. They had a young kid opening the bowling, he bowled a couple of wides and his head dropped, it ended up being an 11 or 12 ball over and I felt bad every time i signalled another wide.

But it was the second over when the craziness began, the first ball sent the off-peg cartwheeling. The second ball thudded into the batsman's wrist/forearm (it was plain as day from my spot at square leg) and they appealed for LBW, the umpire's finger seemed to go up before appearing to change his decision when the batsman complained that it hit his glove.

The correct decision was reached in the end but it was all obviously very village and I don't blame the other team for being a bit cheesed off.

Next ball saw the ball hoicked over to deep square leg straight to the fielder waiting to claim a simple catch, only for the ball to clip an overhanging branch, so instead of a wicket it's six runs.

This did not help their mood.

The wicket next ball did.

We were 47/3 after 4 overs, 5 wickets down after 6 and a half and I walked out at 60/6. I tried my best not to bat like an idiot, didn't play a single reverse sweep, and along with one of our youngsters (who scored a really good 45 and put the adults to shame) put on 85 before I was trapped LBW falling over to an inswinger. I walked off having batted for what felt like ages, only to check the scorebook and find out all I'd scored was 21 runs.

I was bloody shattered, I should have saved my energy and just swung the bat a bit for four overs  ;)
