Another duck and another loss, but a good 9 over spell and an absolute screamer at short fine leg for me last Saturday.

Wet wicket, batted 11, first ball kicked up and my back foot defensive ended up being spliced and caught by cover diving in. Opposition chased down our 168 in the 44th over of 45. We haven't won since June, last 3 weeks we have Haywards Heath, Three Bridges and Billingshurst, all of whom are well above us in the table, and we realistically need to win a couple of them as Bexhill play Lindfield this weekend and they are the two teams below us. I think the best result for us from that is Lindfield winning as they are 10th by a distance, whereas we are about 12 points above Bexhill.

I subscribe to the Three Bridges YouTube channel so i'll keep an eye out for you.  :D

The missus booked a few days always in Brighton so not playing this weekend. I did threaten to try and get a game in whilst down but that went down like a lead balloon. Not sure why, there was plenty of room in the car for my gear.

Sad state of affairs in the WEPL and Wilts league this week. Both the 1st XI (WEPL Prem 2) and 2nd XI (Wilts Div 4) have been cancelled due to the opposition not being able to raise a side.

Really does show what a state club cricket is in. The 1st XI opposition, Lechlade, were WEPL Prem 1 contenders up until recently - Gloucs' Jack Taylor has played for them for the past 2 seasons to put it in perspective!

What exactly has been going on at Lechlade recently, their social media has been particularly grim?!

45 players available for 2 games on a sat inweek 1 not including any proper juniors, 18 this week including a few playing their first game. Ridiculous levels of commitment, its not like people haven't had a game over the season as we have been good at sharing it out but just some people only want to play when it suits them. Frustrating

Not sure how but we have managed to field 22 players tomorrow in the end... real credit to the guys stepping in to play the game, amazing how people rally round.

Quite a few things but can't really get into it on here, for what it's worth there's fault on both sides - just a shame to see clubs falling apart so easily in what are supposed to be established league systems (especially when you're talking about a league 1 below the highest amateur league in the South West!).

Shame indeed, a lesson to us all

Been dropped to the seconds to 'balance the side' this weekend. Ones are now packed with players coming back from or carrying injuries (two hamstring, one shoulder), but the 2s needed a spinner. 1s are battling relegation, 2s fighting for the league title and promotion, means I get to bat in the top 6 and bowl my overs tomorrow.

A bit disappointed tbh, but have a point to prove now.

It’s never been a club though, a collection of paid players and hence when things stop happening they walk away.. or ‘retire’... well, until the next paycheck I suppose

Exactly, I fully agree mate. If you're paying 10 of your 1st XI then what do you expect to happen when your side gets relegated... paid players will simply leave for a bigger paycheck elsewhere. The same issue is hanging over a few clubs in the WEPL set up, it's only a matter of time until it happens again but no one seems to learn.

After looking like I wouldn't get a game today, I got a late call from the team I played for 2 weeks ago and surprisingly, they were playing the same opposition. Batted at No.9 and happy with my 12 not out at the end to take us to 206-9 off 40 overs. In fairness, we benefitted greatly from some poor catching with the keeper dropping one lad when on single figures who then went on to make 86. It simply wasn't a 200 wicket and in reply the opposition got 130-7 in their 40 overs. I was fairly pleased with my figures (3-19 off 6 overs) although had I been counting properly, I could have had an extra over as the maximum limit for loan players is 7.

Still I can't complain and the best thing was that the match was played in a great spirit throughout.
