Wow, 11/12 runs an over! That must have been brutal

It really was. Their opener scored 120 in 40 odd balls with 14 sixes. He was using a H4L bat and the toe sounded as if there was a crack but even those were going for sixes.

On the plus side, the wife was happy that I got home so early :)

Played on the worst wicket i can remember today, uncovered, half wet half dry and cut before the game with a garden flymo as apparently there mower is broken
They won the toss and surprise put us in to bat, the first 4 balls I faced all hit the gloves or my chest 5th was a leg stump full toss put away for 4 and 6th spat off a length took the shoulder and lopped to slip. Same happened to No3, no4 got the opposite and shot along the floor. We managed to somehow limp to 149 all out using all our 45 overs.
In reply the Oppo who bat on this all the time swang the bat at everything and raced to 45/2 from 8 overs with most going over slips or inside edges down to fine leg.

Skip then for the 1st time told me to bowl ( I’m mainly a keeper but can bowl a bit of nibble medium pace and inreturned figures of 9 overs 2 for 19 but no one other bowler today could hit the same spot twice and on this particular pitch committee the worse sin of bowling full tosses.
We lost by 4 wickets with them chasing it down in the 37th over.
Bright side is we are already promoted and only needed 12pts from our last 3 games to be champions. So still 2 weeks left.

Personally after my best ever start to a season in my first 5 games scoring over 300 runs my last 5 games have produced only 74 runs and worst of all is I just feel shot. Only 1 more game planned for me and already can’t wait for winter nets to get my technical issues fixed as for some reason trying to be too aggressive even though im telling myself to play my normal patient game my body seems to be taking over my mind

3rd ball duck for me today. We lost but only dropped 1 losing bonus point so we may avoid relegation after all. We have all batted poorly this season so hopefully a fresh start next year.

Last game of the season today, and we finished with a TIE! Brilliant game of cricket against a great bunch of lads we always have a good game against, who were in danger of being relegated but have gladly stayed up.

Oppo batted 1st and got 217-6 off their 40 after we had them 50-5. We started well, I got 81 and with others chipping in only needed 3 off the last over with 3 wickets in hand. The leg spinner bowled .WW11W for a TIE!

It means we finished 5th and considering how inconsistent we have been both on the pitch and off the pitch with availability, it is probably about right.

I finished with 497 league runs in 14 games which is really annoying it's not 500! But it was a season of starts that weren't converted, I had 4 x 50's but no 100's plus a number of 30's.

Defeat and relegation. Made more painful by being last man out when we needed 4 runs for the next batting point to assure safety having had a 53 partnership with the number 9.

Lost toss and bowled, we dropped a few catches. Me and the offie caused a collapse, six wickets in quick time, but the next 3 (they had 10) took a while and they got 188ao. Personally 7/0/41/3 I think.

Top and middle order failed. Opener top scored with 28, number 9 got 26* and my 24 was next best score. Wore my second ball on the hip having gone in 103/9 needing to get to 160 to get the bonus points to keep Ansty up. A few streaky runs, some smashed and some clipped, my best knock of the season probably, before an absolute ripper from their skipper with the score on 156 that got past/through my defensive and bowled me. Lindfield won so tied on points but they stayed up having won 5 whilst we only won 3 all season and lost 12.

Ended the season top of the club for catches, third for wickets in the 1s despite not getting many overs a lot of the time, and with (I think) 95 runs in the league for the 1s.

Did we deserve to stay up? Simply, no. Of you lose 8/9 second half of that season you don't, so we didn't. Not the way I wanted to finish my time at Ansty.

What a way to sign off the league season yesterday.

I was called into the 1st XI for the first time in 4 years. (My only appearance to date was rained off and I didn't get to bowl!)

We lost the toss and were asked to bat first, with the home side opening with one of their 6 spinners! We posted 229-5 off our 50 to register full batting points, our opener with 46 and our numbers 3 and 4 making 55 & 77.

In reply the oppo were always around the rate, but we took wickets to keep them in check. I bowed in the middle overs and beat the bat a few times, before being taken off after a tidy but wicketless 6 overs.

Our seamers came back and took further wickets but the rate never got out of hand.

I was trusted to see the game out (including the final over) with my offies. The equation was 15 runs to win off the last over with 1 wicket in hand. I held my nerve and bolwed the last man with 2 balls remaining.

We won by 10 runs to claim the full 22 points and secure 2nd place in Southern Premier League Division 1. What a great day to end a great season. With only friendlies left now, I can't wait to see what next season will hold!

@WalkingWicket37 that must mean promotion to premier for your 1’s. Well done on bowling well in that division. Our 2’s got relegated into county 1 yesterday

I don't think so, only 1 side goes up I believe.

Still, to finish 2nd when you're tipped for relegation post season is a decent achievement :)

Disappointing loss yesterday, one which sees us finish 4th with a game to spare, narrowly missing out on promotion. Its probably best for the club as next season both our best bowler and best batsman both go travelling for the year so we would get battered every week.

Batted first and made 130 on a tricky wicket, i came in at 3 and made 32. 2 weeks ago my top score was 23, and in the last 2 weeks i've now hit 105 & 32! Unfortunately i played back one too many times on a dodgy wicket and got undone by one that kept low. The last 2 weeks seem to have completely changed my batting mentality, as i now feel able to go at the bad balls and seem able to turn the good balls into singles! Our tail wagged slightly, and our 7&8 both hit 23, leaving me as top scorer again.

They had a couple of first teamers playing and they made light work of the target, chasing it in 30 overs. Our opening bowlers (one of them our captain) bowled 20 of those 30, as they're both desperate to win the league bowling award. There wasn't much thought for the rest of the lads who didn't get a bat or bowl, but as long as they're happy...

Big big win for us. 3rd (us) plays 4th with all the top teams to all play each other, basically the winner of this takes a strong 3rd place and has it in their own hands to take promotion if they keep winning (both are still to play 2nd) and we are all within a win of each other.

As expected they added a first teamer (they were mid table 3 divs above), i had lost a class player to a 1’s drop out on friday and had at least 6 other potential first choice players unavailable including my regular keeper, my reserve keeper, my vice captain a first change bowler and 2/3 of my regular top 6 bats.... No spinner either.. also gone to fill in 1’s 🤦‍♂️

Once their 1’s pre Madonna departed for 40ish to a v smart leg side snaffle by the stand in keeper we were in control of the game... that was untill their no7 arrived at the crease and proceeded to smash (its exactly the right word) the ball all over. He hit 71no in very short order, it was not pretty but boy ohh boy was it effective... he targeted the short boundary and cleared that, plus the road on quite a few occasions. 201/9 off 44, declaring to deny us the additional bowling point....

Its at this point i put the batting order together and realised how light we looked, i’m Usually apologising to people about how low they are relative to their ability at this standard but not today... my usual 7/8 was in at 5.

I need not worry, our stalwart opening nurddler and his 15 year old opening partner put on a partnership of 188 of truly wonderful batting, all under some pretty nasty and consistent “banter” lead by their super star 1’s player who preceded to go for 47 runs off his 7.5 overs. I have to say ...that team are a really good bunch of lads usually and if anything he upset their flow today - it was simply a case of lack of unity created by the attitude of one individual.

We did loose 2 wickets that included the opener for 119, but the young lad carried his bat for a 51no and i even got to smash the “pro” for 4 facing my second delivery with the scores tied.... i have never been so satisfied to see that ball disappear to the boundary.

We knocked them off 2 down in just over 30 overs.... they could not believe it and to be fair neither could we.

With 3 games to play (i can’t believe some of you have already finished) we are 18 points behind 2nd with the fixtures for us looking like bottom, 1st.... 2nd. So the last game could be a massive one if it all pans out as we expect.... our opposition play 2nd next week so as you can imagine there were plenty of requests to do us a favour at the end of the game!!

What a sat!

Yesterday my Sunday friendly side played a decent match against a team that included a ringer who had apparently been paid to play. Fortunately, this lad didn't get in until the 30th over and you can guess who had decided to bowl the last 5 overs from one end. After my first ball was effortlessly clipped for 6 over square leg as I was fearing the worst but mixed it up really well and only conceded 35 which helped keep the opposition to 190 off 40 overs.

Our reply didn't get off to the best of starts as we were 10-2 when one of our guys (who has not scored 50 for us in total all season) walked to the crease and proceeded to deal exclusively in boundaries, mainly of the 6 variety. The aforementioned ringer was taken to the cleaners to the extent that we passed 100 in only the 15th over. We made good progress after that so needing only about 20 runs to win off 10 overs, we mixed up the batting order moving our usual opener and myself down to 10 and 11 as insurance.

The target got down to 4 runs when 8th wicket fell and I was still umpiring but with our No.3 still there on 70+ and our normal opener now at the crease facing just juniors, I felt the result was never in question so didn't bother asking someone else to come out to umpire.

However, this was all too much for our team's village idiot who clearly did not share the same faith I had in the 9th wicket partnership and came "running" onto the field shrieking that I had to go and pad up. Everyone told him to go away and I walked off to square leg to turn around to find him following me, then bizarrely standing in front of me at square leg. I have to say having a mentally deranged individual competing with me to umpire is not something I have encountered before so I simply walked off much to the amusement of everyone watching.

We won the match 2 balls later but never think you have seen everything on a cricket field.

Finally returned on Saturday after 2 months out with a broken foot. Last game of the league season needing a win for promotion.

Fielded at short cover nearly all day, a position I love as it's action packed, and helped keep the oppo to 139ao.

Batting at 3 I got a 6 ball duck when I basically just missed a middle stump full toss. Out of form... anyway the rest of the team did their job and we won by 6 wickets.

Still gutted about Saturday and coming so close to saving the side from relegation. Got two games next weekend now, one for Firle and the other for Frogs, so some decent practice for the winter. Hopefully the runs keep coming as they have started to flow a bit.

Actually I can top my previous post as some of the Saturday team were playing a friendly in York yesterday. During the first innings, a fielder injured his knee and collapsed in agony on the cricket field. After 30 minutes of waiting for an ambulance, the game resumed but with player still in the same place and now a wheelbarrow strategically placed in front of him for protection. The fielding team placed a fielder in front of the wheelbarrow, not to protect the player but avoid the risk of 5 penalty runs !!!
