^ A very good cricketer in my league had similar toe damage and he kept using the bat without fixing it. It looks awkward but doesn't seem like he needs a full toe.

Our season has just restarted after the Christmas break, and I've had a couple of bats to look at in the first week.
The first is a DSC Condor Flight which one of our players was unhappy with the 'feel' of. I gave it the scientific swish around and concluded that the toothpick handle wasn't helping much with the pickup so I offered to get rid of the god awful octopus grip and add some tape the handle to thicken it up a bit, I think this feels nicer than two grips.
It weighs 2.9 and has a 63mm spine with 36mm edges and is fairly concaved but there were some things I wasn't too happy about. The handle is full of filler and has very loose binding with no glue on it, the other issue is that it's only 104mm wide. All in all it's pretty unimpressive for a reasonably expensive bat ($600 AUD) when you can get something like a GN Ultimate in the same price range.

The second bat is a GN Platinum (this is a one off made for a particular store, I think it's the same as a Silver) which is only about 6 months old. These are similar to many of the GN bats which have thin toes to give a better pickup, this one is just under 20mm at the conrers. Owned by a fast bowler who was chasing quick runs at the end of the innings, turns out you can't put every ball over the fence - even yorkers.
Because the break is pretty clean I think this may actually be repairable, I've applied a heap of glue and a couple of dowels and it's drying in the clamps at the moment. If he keeps clubbing yorkers he may have to move to a 35mm toe.

Was the DSC stickers bay always a DSC?

I wouldn't know, this is the first one I've ever seen in the flesh. What are the trademarks of a genuine DSC?
I just had a quick look at the online retailer he purchased from and they seem to stock their own brands and other frequently counterfeited brands like MRF and RNS so it's not out of the question.....

That DSC is 100% fake. Where did the guy get it? Fake stickers and back labels are in wrong place as well.

DSC bats use really good handles -the best from the subcontinent (they supply handles to some of the bigger names even in UK)

If anyone has any specific details I can pass them on to the owner, I can't really just tell him that 'the internet' said it's a fake.

Here's one I did in a spare hour yesterday. It started as a polyarmoured GM Cannon, which nobody likes any more. So I removed the armouring from the blade and it has come up nicely. Good grains, if a little wavy at the toe. Definitely better uncovered. It pings a lot better as well without the covering. One thing though, polyarmour really does preserve the wood underneath. No darkening or stains evident. It's a massive 3lber with a great middle.

... Tip for removing old scuff sheets: peel off with heat gun /hair dryer, then use wire wool dipped in white spirit to remove all the glue and gunk. It's the only painless way I have found to do this job. All other methods take hours and waste loads of sandpaper.
