I can see Ian bell having a really strong season and people throwing his name around again. However, turning 36 yesterday (he still looks 18) will probably count against him.

I think Stoneman will be safe for the start of the test summer but the likes of Northeast, Gubbins, Joe Clarke, Livingstone will be breathing down Vince's neck.

How we do depends on players away with England, but an XI of

Burns, Stoneman, Borthwick, overseas (possibly Elgar), Pope/Roy, Foakes, S Curran, Clarke, T Curran, Batty and Morkel really should be making a statement or two. Big boots to fill for the players at the top order to make up all those runs Sanga put on the board, but I reckon Burns under the captaincy will thrive

Really dont think Bell's name will be mentioned for England again. It shouldn't be anyway.

Early season damp wickets, Middlesex can cause some damage with the seam bowling line up.

Tim Murtagh, TRJ, Steven Finn, Tom Helm, James Harris, Tom Barber to name a few, I'd expect a strong start with whatever combination is selected. Batting looks pretty good, provided Gubbins comes back from his hamstring injury quickly. With Malan unavailable and Morgan injured we look a little light to start, not much experience waiting in the wings but huge potential.

I reckon the xi tomorrow will be along these lines.

Just seen the Lords pitch for tomorrow.
It is greener than a green felt tip.
Middlesex will be batting first for sure!

Thick cloud, or at least overcast, the entire day according to BBC weather.
Tim Murtagh will be licking his lips at that pitch! Batsmen not so much...
I live about half an hours train from Lords, it has been drizzling most of the last few days, lost two days of the game at Merchant Taylors to the weather so won't have been easy getting any sort of pitch prepared!

Cricinfo's take on what players we should be looking out for. Most of them have already been mentioned.

What a load of (No Swearing Please), 3 of them were massive performers last season so obviously pipped for a good year again, doesn't take a cricket expert to predict that, lazy journalism

If hope dawid Malan was on the beers when interviewed by Sky, it seems only Joe root is guaranteed to start for England this summer.... We might have more problems then we think  :)

Batting wise for those youngsters there's motivation for a possible place, I think these will be looked at closely in the Championship.

Hameed
Clarke
Livingstone
Gubbins
Jennings.

Livingstone having been picked maybe first in line.

one youngster to watch is Kent's Zac Crawley.

As for predictions, I am going for Essex to win again.

I think Surrey will struggle 🤕😨😭

I’m the opposite, I think Essex will struggle. They have an ageing team
