Gosh! Never have the early county games incorporated so much 'England watch'!!!  There must be at least 3/4 batting places up for grabs and 2 bowling places.

I know England won't throw the baby out with the bathwater, but it;s exciting to see who will stake a claim! My left-field, wild-card, what-have-you-been-drinking ones to watch are:

Eskinazi
Gubbins
Helm
Clarke (Worcs)
Bess
Parkinson (Lancs)
Garton (I live in hope!!)
Duckett (yes, big D - reincented as a Test match no 3 or 4)

Some counties have live streams now, so I'll be watching Middlesex through their website.

I’m the opposite, I think Essex will struggle. They have an ageing team

Yeah that 7 months since September has ruined them all!  ;)

Essex are, however, a couple of injuries away from a problem. They've got decent back up in Wheater & Chopra, but really very, very little after that... Bowling looks a lot strounger this year, so hopefully won't have to rely on Porter & Harmer as much. Coles looks a good signing, Walter could be something special, and then you've got to add in Sam Cook, Beard, Quinn & Dixon. Overseas - Siddle isn't as good as Amir, but still a serious threat.

Essex to win, probably won't be at a canter, Hants look good this year and Morkel will make a huge difference at Surrey. Somerset to struggle, Not sure who else will go down though, Worcs looked decent last year and should be mid-table I feel.

Middlesex's batting looks weak, missing Gubbins, Compton, Eskinazi & Malan.

Will be interesting to see how they go against what is a pretty decent Northants attack on a pitch like this, Sanderson, Gleeson & Kleindveldt are should be a handful.

Tough losing Eski very late on. Robson needs to do his usual trick of piling up early runs and hopefully not tail off like most seasons.

Gleeson looks good! Good physique on him, moves it and bowls at a decent lick!
