"In part" = encouragement for spinners.
"Extreme" = too much encouagement for spinners.

The ECB wanted pitches that turn, yes the Somerset pitch is getting extreme but what I have a massive issue with is what is the difference between the ball turning early in a game and it seaming sideways all game? Green seamers never ever get called up by anyone yet they are the bigger problem in the game IMHO.

Thats a valid question. I suppose, playing devils advocate, greenish seamers are sometimes unavoidable due to water tables and atmospheric conditions, whereas dustbowls in the UK are clearly not.  Also, you rarely see a green seamer so difficult that the batsman knows from ball one that one has his name on it, whereas some Ciderabad pitches seem to be of that ilk.

Great to see some CC Cricket on Sky Sports today.

Even better that it's the mighty Essex causing trouble at The Oval!  :D

Causing them trouble is a bit of an understatement.  Durham taken 10 at the Riverside already as well.

They should have been at Warwickshire for the winner takes all game. Disappointing from sky

Rightly or wrongly (wrongly), I don't think the ECB / Sky really care about Div 2.

In fairness, this is 1st vs 3rd in Div 1, so should be a high quality game, it's just a shame there is absolutely nothing riding on it.

We have treated all of this as a beer game since we tied up the league

So no-one in the 11 cares about going a whole season unbeaten? I'd have thought that would be enough motivation, they're just being out played at the moment.

Could all turn around though, Surrey are a quality side!

It will be a massive ask for Surrey to recover here and they are absolutely focused on an unbeaten season, which is why there is a basically full strength team playing.

In Pope batting at 4, that is where he has batted since coming back from playing for England.

Ah fair enough, cant say i noticed!

I wonder if that's an Ollie Pope, ECB or Surrey choice!

Kent getting a bit of a pasting on day 1 unfortunately. Stone in the wickets for Warwickshire and only 20 runs behind Kent 1st innings score at end of day 1.

Personally I reckon surrry will turn this around 2nd innings just a feeling

To be fair Foakes, Jacks and Patel were after him so i'd expect him to bat above all of those. I think that position was more "coincidence" than being a specific thing the ECB have asked to happen.
