FKW?
« on: April 18, 2018, 05:29:48 PM »

So how many of us are FKWs?

Do you feel it important to have all matching kit? Especially when you purchase a nice new bat? Does it make you feel more confident? I mean you have a better feeling that you look the part so in turn feel more confident at the crease?

Or are you not bothered and actually think it’s better to have different prices of kit from different brands? As you have the pick of the market then.
Just interested in everyone’s opinions  - on a personal level I like  to have matching kit

I used to be a fkw....then i bought morrant pads , so fkw days are over . But i can achieve a certain 'pro' look ,if i feel like , by wearing morrant pads with bas players gloves . I enjoy not being a fkw because now i can interchange my bats freely and pick my absolute favourite softs .

If you play at a lower level (as I do - see: cricketing bottom-feeders), you simply cannot be an FKW. You will look a complete tit, and people will say rude things about you. I actively avoid it where possible. I am currently rocking a Hunts Bat, Red Ink pads and Ayrtek gloves. I am prepared to allow softs to match, but bat as well? #getdafuckouttahere !

There some decent people on this forum, yes really, so I don't want to be rude about people who have matching  kit but it really gets on my nerves, it's just too much about the look rather than how you play  :)
But my kit is trampish to be honest, I do have new pads this year to replace the five quid ones I got on eBay for last season

But anyway.....the point  I was going to make is I was reading about the guy who won the US open, dunno if anyone else read the same article about his equipment

Basically he  shunned the sponsorship even for his clubs, so he has the best putter he likes, a different wedge, a different companies driver and so on.....

Not that unusual you might think but apparently very unusual on the golf pro circuit.

So.....what's the difference with cricket?

I'm sure there's some on here that think a particular set of pads are best, and gloves....

Personally I think salix gloves are the dogs do dahs and Newbery pads feel the most comfortable.

It's not a groundbreaking post this....but I was interested in reading about Reed the golfer and how he deals with his own equipment

 :)

Matching pads and gloves. Bat has to therefore be a different brand. Has to be.

Allways wear and use GN matching kit  have done so most of  my career it was quite rare back then  ever since Boycott said you will  feel the part if you look the part

It all depends on which bat I take out as to whether I am a FKW or not. I will be in matching Choice softs so if I use my Choice bat then yes I do realise what i am possibly walking into. However I might take out a different bat so I could be not FKW.

It really doesn't worry me either way, what's important is I am batting in gear I am comfortable it and have confidence in etc...

I have way too much adidas kit... shoes, whites, softs... trusty BB for matches though. I am with @jamielsn15

I also have way too much underarmour

My kit depends on what's on sale. I played only 1 full season so haven't gotten much of kit.
I had bought whatever I could find cheapest to start with. But then I realised as I played cheapest was not comfortable in long innings.

So bought Focus Limited pads off vitas sale. Bought Newbery gloves and Newbery Infinity cheap on sale. So I just go with what I find is cheaper on sale as financially I am not very good situation.

Never will be a FKW. Love puma gloves and pads, hate puma bats.
Love morrants pads, don’t know if they even make gloves/bats.
Own bats from 8 or so makers,  can’t afford, and wouldn’t want the pads/gloves for each as I personally find certain things from different places suit me best

I knew this would be interesting...

Agree on liking a bat but not the softs - have had experience with this with Alfred’s awesome bats awful softs (well the gold sovereigns were)

H4L great bats and softs - haven’t used my neon bat yet but the softs are excellent

I don’t mind being a full kit (No Swearing Please)..... and I don’t mind if I’m not.

I was happy to support Marcus a few season back and ended up fill kit..... but prefer sausage gloves and never got on with the affinity splits is ended up with look splits.

The kook splits died so now have neon splits. They are good. Will be going to him if still available when I need new pads.

Bats, I use what I like, not easy to get in my weight. But if I need a refurb, I tend to get one with the softs I’m suing so it comes back with matching softs.

I had my Warner returned by affinity to match my softs.

When my current halestorm needs repair/refurb, I’ll probably send it to neon  for the refurb.

Pads and gloves have to match after a certain level, bat can be any brand performance is key anyone using a plank as they spent £200 on a top end set of softs is worthy of more sledging than the FKW. If you are going FKW just make sure you either score runs or have amazing chat for when you are fielding after the onslaught you are due whilst batting. Used to be a FKW with salix but now have salix softs and aldred bat, as long as the colours go its fine. Pet hate is where colours clash horribly, used to have asics gel spikes with a red team kit, had to go!

Also on the topic of looks at the crease, what are peoples thoughts on wearing pads over laces/ bending the ankle protection. Seen people like Smith who hate seeing shoe laces do it.

Never was but now I am after having to buy all new kit. It was more down to getting a bundle rather than wanting to be fkw though, I'd have no problem in getting different kit if it works in the future. I don't mind seeing either though, each to their own. Makes no difference in the grand scheme of things.

Never been a FKW, but recently crossed my mind to get some GN bat stickers (going to have to be off ebay i am afraid), even if I don't have a GN bat.

After purchasing legend pads, I got some prestige gloves which are to be my match gloves. I use non GN gloves in nets.

The urge to experience being a fake FKW has crossed my mind just to see if having matching kit makes you feel better. I it s borderline OCD?
