Alex in the nets
« on: June 06, 2018, 08:46:32 PM »

Having been dropped for last week due to some issues with the ball not spinning/not being given a full chance with bat or ball, I spent some time in the nets with a camera to work on technique.

I sent footage to my @edynamo who I have been working with on my leg spin for a couple of seasons, and Ross felt it was a lack of power/energy going into my delivery. I have worked to quicken my run up and power into my action the last couple of weeks, and the results are in the video below:

https://youtu.be/oIsq8zOiXJM

There are about 30 balls from behind me, 20 from the side and 20 from slightly in front in sets of 4 balls, each lasting approx 1 minute (hence long video and breakdown here).

I am hoping to get some clips in the nets batting as well in the near future.

Looks good mate. Especially when you give it some air.

Would you say you were quite flat through the air as your stock delivery? might just be the camera angle.

I think it's partly camera angle, partly focus on power in my delivery stride rather than flight, but as im a pretty quick leg spinner it is a bit deceptive. Looks flatter than it is, stock ball is pretty quick but flighted.

Leg spinner with flight pace and bounce batsmans nightmare should be one of the first names on the team sheet.

You could do worse than to follow the advice from the second best ever.

If you get abit more side on, you will generate more spin. Another point to also note, is the faster you bowl thru the air the less spin off the pitch you will tend to generate.
Also work on driving up and over with good rotation, making sure you finish your action off - A high front arm will help to pull you up and over whilst focusing on spinning the ball up....
Good Luck with it all - Leg spinners are Gold for each team

I did notice when watching back that I wasn't reaching up and out with my lead arm.

I have a slight advantage over other spinners- I have subluxations in a lot of my joints, including my wrists, which means I can get loads of revs on the ball with ease. Drift and bounce have always been my main weapons as a result.

My only comment is you could use your front arm a bit more, but I am not leg spin expert. If in doubt follow what @Hoover says!

Other than what's been said above, if you want to get a stronger front foot pivot then getting off the balls of your feet a bit more , and up onto tip toes , would allow you to get a bit more 'up and over' ( it may also allow your back leg knee drive to be a bit more dynamic/more powerfull) . To achieve this i would experiment with shortening my delivery stride ( see what the shorter delivery stride can offer you.....you may find that it can just be another variation up your sleeve- you would then be able to achieve that variation while only concentrating on one thing/difference in action).
You have solid fundamentals and a repeatable  action . You look a good bowler .

Cheers Biggie.

My goal this season is just to prove I can play higher level, and after my season in Aus is to break into minor counties. My clubs overseas thinks I can play that level, thinks I should just email Bucks captain and ask to have a net with the senior county side, which would be a bit cheeky Imo.

Do what your overseas says.
Definitely ask for a net. There is no harm in it. No one else will do it for you.
Worse case they say thanks smash you around a bit and don't ask you back.

As @Buzz said , just contact them and ask for a net .....name dropping your overseas player and saying he recommended you contact them couldn't hurt either.

If you can pick up the phone so much the better. Easier to make personal contact and that will leave a better impression (true for pretty much all walks of life).

So had a net with old club tonight on a very green pitch. Bowled well (no footage) and filmed my batting. Wasn't great, tbh, got cleaned up twice early on. Lack of pace was an issue, but also tried to hit everything too hard to make up for it. Clip will be up later once I've got it sorted.

First 3 mins is the clubs opening bat.

Having watched back, my bat wasn't coming down straight at the start which certainly contributed to the second time I got cleaned up. First one I just didn't move my feet and adjust to it keeping low.
