Figured the best way to improve fielding is to LOVE it (that leads to "wanting the ball to come to you", anticipating better, etc etc). So who here loves to be in the field, and why do you love it? And who wants to help me fall in love with it?

Issue is some captain don't appreciate how a really good fielder is worth to a team now if you can bat a bit and bowl also .. that's a gem ..but again it's under appreciated unless you excel in batting and bowling ....

Something to discuss I guess

Agreed.. thats why i want to improve, and I think the fastest way to improve (we all know what we "should" do in terms of technique) is to fall in love with fielding.. so i'm all ears guys

Love fielding! I keep and that�s probably why I love it so much because I�m in the game all the time. But, fielding anywhere is great. I�m the one that keeps the noise up all the time so I just love being involved.

Also I sing to myself a lot whilst riding the boundary 😂😂

We have found in our team that it's really good to get players specialised in their own fielding position. So not just the slips and gully etc... but people now own point, covers, mid off etc... there are different skills for each position and they practice those. When we go out to field everyone just goes straight to their positions. It makes the guys want to field and take pride in their position.

I agree with the above. I�ve always fielded in the covers/point and know how the ball will come to me and what shots to be aware of . Also, it make it easier to judge how to throw it in to the keeper /shy at the stumps.
I�m not as quick or lithe as I used to be but I like to think I still do a decent job in a Position usually earmarked for the younger and fitter players.
I do generally enjoy it but get a bit of back pain after about 30 overs.

I do enjoy fielding, especially on a smooth outfield. We've had a few rough ones with the hot weather recently, so May/June is best. I prefer to field at Mid-on / Mid-off, and the captain is happy for me to do so, both ends is fine. Keeps me in the game enough, and I prefer to see the ball off the bat, in front of me. I'm too old and slow for the glory positions and to be honest my catching seems to be a bit off at the moment. Mid-off is a decent enough place to field I think. Gully though, that's the worst I reckon. You could get nothing all day, you could get a full blooded square cut smashed at you 1st ball. No thanks.

i bloody love fielding, i like to play games with the other fielders, have races between overs, keep up the encouragement between overs and always try to smile and have a goal for each time i field.

I also try to practice fielding when i can, we all go to nets and smash balls or bowl endless overs, but in reality how often do we spend 30 minutes catching, long barrier, throwing...all these things make a big difference to our confidence level and ultimately our enjoyment.

I tend to field midwicket or cover - active, but not point or gully style active. Really enjoy it, catchings okay and don't mind a dive but find it's the ones that are sort of mistimed that get you running and look halfway between diveable and pickupable that get me looking foolish.

Always loved fielding. As a kid living in the middle of nowhere I used to practice catching by throwing a tennis ball against a semi-circle rocky wall we had for hours on end. The ball would fly off in all directions. I think this was what made me a good fielder. Now I have a rebound catcher at home that my boys and me use. Usually field at point, gully or in the covers, but I like mid-wicket as you often get more catches there. I love putting pressure on the batsmen who try take quick singles, they usually soon realise they'll need to try another fielder. It's bits like this that help to make fielding fun and competitive.

I hate it.

On a hot day, it saps me of energy and I can't bat properly if we field first since I open. I also hate running after shots. If I must field, I'd rather stand at a spot where no shots are played. I also want to find a way to keep my energy level up after fielding. I take catches, I stop run, but do I love doing it? Hell no! I need all my energy for my batting.

How do you guys keep your energy level up after fielding first especially if you are an opener?

Ive seen first hand how much the members of this forum love fielding. Particularly in specialist positions.

I love fielding. I enjoy throwing myself about and want the ball to come my way every delivery.

Love fielding. I�ve still got my pace and enjoy diving around like an idiot. It�s probably the main reason I get selected for our 1st team! As Beaver said, it�s great putting the pressure on batsmen trying to take a quick single, steam in and see them back down. Always boosts my confidence when the captain shifts the field around to position me on the batsman�s favourite shot. Cheaper ruining whites than bats and softs too!
