Interesting listening to Aggers on the Cricket Social - he was saying about Bairstow's celebration that it was anger about his injury and he has told Aggers that he felt really angry about getting a career threatening injury playing football warming up which is needless, and that he has told the management he won't be playing football again - hence why he is being referee in the football warm up - even though he is fit.

He is certainly a more natural five. But then, are we using the same "poor side" rationale and asking whether Foakes will perform with the bat against better/quicker bowling?

Point is, for the tests in the West Indies, they need the best keeper, which is certainly Foakes, and therefore the only real selection issue is whether they want two or three spinners - if they want three, then Buttler suddenly looks vulnerable. Back in England, all sorts of variables come into play.

hmmmm... I like Bairstow but this des not really read very well. you could get injured doing pretty much anything, didn't Broad get crocked getting off the sofa, or was that Butch with a girl ontop of him?

I would like JB to say to the media Foakes is class and I will take the batting spot and bat anywhere the team needs me with or without keeping gloves because there is competition for places
he is a very good player but rumours of him being 'difficult' may well be true

Interesting perspective, because I didn't get that from his interview at all - I fear you might be looking for issues that are not there, because all of the media reports have been that he and Broad have been exemplary off the field on this tour. I thought Bairstow's interview was engaging and honest and his comments fair and balanced rather than the usual media-trained platitudes. Also nice that he mentioned Chris Allinson, who passed away recently.

Does it matter though?
People often moan about sports stars just parroting what their PR team tells them to, without a hint of authenticity. You can virtually predict what a captain will say in a press conference after a game.

So there has been this cry for authenticity, for personality, for 'difference', and yet here we have a pugnacious YJB and those same people don't seem to like the reality.

I like this passionate YJB. He cares deeply, and that to me is important as an England supporter.

good point indeed, there are different ways to read players comments as a lot of us do, totally agree the interviews these days are monotonous, Root probably is the worst looking as if he reads from an autocue

I think myself I would of like to have seen a bit more public support from Bairstow towards Foakes

If you read or see any interviews with Jos Butler he seems to be comfortable in himself and strikes me as not being fussed what he does or where he bats.

Bairstow has worked incredibly hard on his keeping, but that's no guarantee of a place im afraid. lots of the England side work as hard as each other

but passion...yes absolutely you want to se it from the players.

he does and he is good. However getting another keeper batsman in the side id like to see just to check its not impossible!

Personally i can see both sides to this, i think you read into it what you will.

I believe he definitely comes across as if the world has done him wrong and maybe i have missed this 'castigation' he has got?

And he keeps on saying that he got left out when he didn't do much wrong...... no he got injured and a bloke came in and did brilliantly.

One things for sure he has batted excellently today! and i just hope he carries on doing well at 3 and things start to settle down a bit.

Watching that, he comes across as having a massive chip on his shoulder, it was almost embarrassing
I suppose this generation tend to big themselves up, and feel they are justified a position

Bumble looked as if he was holding himself back.
