Never say never, but I'm tempted to say No.

However romantic Retro sounds, I feel the game changes - whenever we compare a bat of today with a much loved past master, they look shapeless and - frankly - wimpy! Better I think to provide bats relevent for today's game, to keep in step and set trends for the future.

How many people, I wonder, would pay a chunk of change for an older shape? Would it be for playing or collecting?

Kind regards

Edward

Thats a shame,

I would tend to agree about the game changing however personally i wouldn't agree re smaller bats being "wimpy".

As has been hotly discussed on here big bats don't mean hitting the ball further,

I have several bats and my match bat and most "pingy" bat is also the smallest, there's much more to producing a big hitting bat than purely size, however i don't want to get into this discussion here!

i think nostalgia plays a huge part in the "retro" market. seeing Marcus Trescothick hit Shane warne back over his head in the second ashes test in 05 with what looked like  decent sized maxi has stuck with me

as has Michael Vaughan's 166 at OT with a Purist.

all of the batsman using these bats still hit the ball a long way and id wager the grounds were bigger then (boundaries not brought in).

@WalkingWicket37 probably has the best idea of a modern take on the older shapes with "retro" stickers!

I wouldn't know if the reintroduction of the Bubble was a success in terms of bats sold for Kook but it definitely got people talking about them.

I would like to see GM release an exact replica of the current bat that Virat Kohli uses.

Does a retro bat have to be the exact bat you'd have bought in 1986?  Could it not be inspired by that bat (and with the look/stickers of the bat) but with modern methods and touches?

I'd love a PROPER Purist or Hero. From 2005.
Seriously.
@Edward Lowy how about a 50-100 bat experiment? ;)
Thanks for giving us the heads up and being on the forum, top guy! A forum trip to GM would be exceptional.

Ala GN?

Yes, providing it's done with the class of the Dynadrive rather than some of the later ones.

Do GM grade on looks or performance, Edward?

On our assessment of performance.

Think the inspired route would be a better compromise with the old stickers... GM Maestro stickers from 1989 please...

You get a lot of 'GM must have misgraded this one' posts on here, accompanied by picture of a good looking bat.

If GM grade on performance, these are surely nonsense?

How so, maybe a low performing stunner, thus the customer thinks it's a misgrade?
